GENESEO'S CHAPTER OF GLBF WELCOMES NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY.

(Geneseo, NY)… This October 11th marks the 14th annual coming out day. The Geneseo, Chapter of GLBF encourages all to be honest about their sexual orientation to friends, family members and co-workers. GLBF also encourages all to be accepting of the sexual orientations of friends, family members, and co-workers.
The first National Coming Out Day was celebrated in 1987, to commemorate the 1987 March on Washington for Gay and Lesbian Rights. Coming Out Day is currently ran by the National Coming out Project 2000-Dallas/Ft. Worth (NCOP-DFW).
NCOP-DFW is an independent non-profit organization closely associated with the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, D.C. NCOP-DFW is not just about National Coming Out Day anymore, they are also dedicated to offering year round educational outreach to the GLBT (Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Transgenders, a group similar to GLBF) and non-GLBT community in the Dallas and Ft. Worth area. Their focus is education about coming out and many issues surrounding the coming out process. NCOP also promotes positive images of gays, lesbians and bisexuals through the sponsorship of events around the country. These events encourage gay people everywhere to "come out".
GLBF, NCOP and Candace J. Gingrich, NCOP associate Manager, would like to remind everyone this October 11th and always, that "if you are going through the coming out process yourself, remember that you are not alone. The NCOP resources will hopefully provide direction on this incredible journey. Coming out is still the single most important thing you can do to turn ignorance into understanding".

Mike Twohig, whose work focuses on the human form and faces, is a 2001 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, with a bachelors of fine arts in illustration.
About halfway through his studies at RIT, Mike began to experiment with ink drawing and painting. His work, inspired by human interaction with self and others, often appears on nontraditional media, such as drywall, plywood, pressboard, as well as the more common canvas. His images are created through acrylic, oil, black ink and oil over acrylic.
Currently Mike is involved in a group art showing at the Bug Jar, Rochester, NY, the venue where Mike began to display his work, during the winter of 2000-01. Mike has also shown his work elsewhere in the Rochester area. Some of these locations include Java's, Java Wally's (RIT), the Wallace Library (RIT), the former club Piranha, Café Del Arté and Park Avenue Treasures. In addition, his work has appeared in two magazines, The Reporter, and Signatures, both annual literary and art magazines run through RIT. He is responsible for an opinion cartoon appearing in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle during the spring of 2001, as well.
Mike's claims inspiration from such artists as Francis Bacon, Ralph Steadman, Stephen Kasner, Derek Hess and Raymond Pettibon. He describes his work as "expressive with subtle to blatant abstraction with qualities intended to evoke an emotional response."
