My Window View Of Singapore

The idea of the frames was drawn from the window grills of my HDB flat. And the different pictures within the frames are images (some abstract) which i perceive from my apartment. The use of different materials and media symbolizes how individuals form a whole and complete Singapore. Square frames signify the equality shared between the four 'official' races and cultures in Singapore.

Painting directions:
medium: newspaper
media: soft pastels, oil pastels, tracing paper, black card, velour, acrylic paint, charcoal, (gold)postel paints, granular paint

(that wasn't much of a 'direction')

The picture above, taken at an angle, is the best i have of the collage painting i did. If anyone recalls, this was the piece which drove me nutz in june because of its degraded treatment. I didn't take any pictures of it before i handed it in, so this is the best i can produce. The management didn't frame up the piece in the end, as a matter of fact, they covered the entire painting(the way i handed in) with a huge plastic cover, which was making unnecessary reflection of light and folds all over(check out picture on the right).

I received a Merit Certificate($200 and a six-month subscription free singnet internet account) for this piece. i've already used up that $200 for my new box of pastels and design-folio. The piece was exhibited at Suntec City during the months of July and August, in conjunction of The Singapore Story multi-media exhibition.
