'AIDS or no AIDS, we are human. Eyes and mouth, mind and soul. There's practically no way of differentiating. Thus we must be careful, but also learn to care and respect AIDS victims like the rest - fore they are humans after all. Don't stigmatize! Don't discriminate!'
heehee... i actually thought up of the above synopsis! i know it's pukeable, but i had a 50-word limit! i didn't think they would choose my work anyway, it's so pukeable!(okay...i just coined this word! everyone use it so the English would contemplate on adding it into the ocean of (correct)english words!)
the inspiration/idea is simple. lots of different faces positioned in a random manner, like a face-maze. it signifies how impossible it is to spot a human with AIDS from the other humans, and also how much everyone (with or without aids) still is the same from the rest. Different color backgrounds represent diversity of lives. i thought doing it on newspaper would be 'politically correct' as art is supposed to be versatile and able to take on any form. basically everything else is self-explanatory.
The piece was an exhibition entry for 'Engaging The World: An Exhibition', organized by The Necessary Stage. i represented CCHS for it. didn't think it'd get in coz as you can clearly see, there're major flaws(ie. almond-eyes) all over the faces(dun blame me, i've not done a single portraiture for two years, then). The exhibition was held from the 28th Feb - 22nd Mar 1998, at the Parco Bugis Junction. more than 33 pieces of visual-art pieces and writing were exhibited, and five secondary schools participated in it.
