The J T Morse was built in 1903 by william McKie at East Boston for the Eastern Steamship Corp. The principal dimensions were:

214' overall
199' waterline
31' beam
50' overguards
12'1" depth
780 gross tons
410 net tons
She was powered by a 600 I.H.P. single beam engine.

The Morse ran from April to November each year on the Rockland-Bar Harbor run with numerous stops along the way.
The J T Morse's career spanned a period of 38 years from 1903 to 1941. Thirty one of those years on the Rockland-Bar Harbor run, and the remaining seven on various routes in the Long Island, New York area where she was finally condemned and dismantled at Arthur's Kill, New York.
The J T Morse was the last, and perhaps the best of her type to ply the Maine waters.
A more indepth account of the Morse's long and distinguished career is available in Mr. Richardson's book.
