| Over the years, a great deal of effort and money has been spent trying to save the lighthouse from falling into the sea. Tidal currents running through the Barnegat Inlet are constantly eroding the beach around the lighthouse. Jetties and sand dunes seem to be saving the beach for now. There used to be a house near the base of the lighthouse where the lighthouse keepers and their families would live. It was torn down many years ago because it was damaged by beach erosion. |
