I worked in a mainframe environment, with the main responsibility of operating and maintaining the Jamaica National Building Society Online System. Other responsibilities included batch processing functions to output the various required reports of our clients.

1984 | TRAINEE PROGRAMMER

My main responsibilities included maintenance programming for the operations department. My major project at this level was in designing, programming and implementing a data entry facility for use on the IBM PC operated under DOS. This system totally replaced the then existing system which was being hosted on ICL ME29 mainframe configuration. With the sucess of this project I was promoted to a Programmer Analyst position.

1984-1986 | PROGRAMMER ANALYST

My initial responsibilities in this position included maintenance programming for the already existing MCS software packages. I was introduced into software development when I was teamed with three other programmers to to develop a stock, savings, and mortgage system for Livingston Alexander and Levy. My main responsibilities after this project were adjusted to software development which I pursued, along with various project teams, until I left the company in 1986.

1986-1987 | SHERWOOD DATA LIMITED|

1986-1987 - DATA ENTRY SYSTEMS ANALYST

At this time the country had recently embarked on providing "Off shore Data Entry Services" to various North American Organizations. NCR was at the time a major organization supporting the development of the Industry and developed a NCR user group within which they provided training courses for various levels of the data entry related personel.

I was trained to offer technical support to the organizations that built their networks on the NCR Tower XP units which supported UNIX based operating systems. At the end of this training course I was offered the Data Entry Systems Analyst position with Sherwood Data (Member of the NCR user group and stationed in Santa Cruz). By the end of 1987 I was in a car accident and sustained injuries that made it impossible for me to commute to and from Santa Cruz as necessary and was forced to seek employment in Kingston.

1988-1989 | ADVANCED INTEGRATED SYSTEMS LIMITED |

SOFTWARE ENGINEER

My previous association with the Managing Director, Douglas Halsall, began when I was trained as a Data Entry Systems Analyst under NCR Jamaica. On learning of my availability due to my recent misfortune he offered me a position in his new company Advanced Integrated Services Limited. This became the turning point in my career, and my path into the world of Graphic design as my key role involved the study of Desktop Publishing Systems and training staff to support these service functions that the company would later offer.

1995 - 1996 Trainee GRAPHIC DESIGNER /1996 - 1998 GRAPHIC DESIGNER/

1998 - 2000 ART DIRECTOR

On joining SWA Ltd. in 1995 my first major contribution was manifest in my thoroughuse of the graphic design programs to efficiently prepare finished artwork and output files as related to multipage documents such as annual reports. After this my major role became annual report design.

Around the middle of 1998 our graphic design team was reduced to two, and with the other designer heavily burdened with exhibition related projects most of the Coprorate Graphic requirements became my responsibility with the exception of brochures and promotional kits which we tended to handle together.

In 1998 SWA Ltd. decided to investigate and possibly get involved with web design. With my programming background and my strong interest in this medium I was given the responsibility of spearheading it. We designed a Web Site for JABEXCO the export marketing arm of Jamaica Broilers at the end of which we were convinced that our resources would not allow us to efficiently split our focus between traditional graphic and Web Design services and so we shelved our web design pursuits for a later date.

In 2000 because of the strained economic climate with receivables a growing concern, SWA Ltd. found it necessary to offer an adjustment to our contractual agreement, which I considered and decided would be unsuitable and opted rather for the redundancy package.
