BE BOP BELUGA ALBUM
"Jay Sewall is a veteran blues musician,
singer, songwriter and virtuoso of the "Mississippi
saxophone" as he calls it (harmonica for the rest of us). With thirty
years of gigging everywhere from smokey bars to blues and folk festivals,
Jay has recorded an album touching on the lighter side of the blues -
blues with humour. Having adopted Quebec City as his home, Jay can look
out over the St-Lawrence River, a source of inspiration for the album's
theme song.. His band, The Jay-Walkers , is right in step - and if you are
a harmonica buff, check out the unplugged versions of Indian City,
Summertime and Must Be a Sinner; these are live studio takes with Jay
playing guitar and harmonica at the same time."

THE SONGS :
LES CHANSONS:
BE BOP BELUGA (Cowritten with Prem Srajano)
We are killing belugas in the St-Lawrence River
the
last remaining whale is immortalized in this song.
Cette chanson fantaisiste immortalise le dernier béluga
survivant à la pollution du fleuve St-Laurent.

GOIN' TO CHICAGO
My most requested song, which I previously recorded on 45
r.p.m. in the early 80's. Here's a version with my new band.
AN INDIAN CITY
A tongue-in-cheek impression of my first voyage to India.
This is basically a live cut with guitar and harp being played
simultaneously.
GOT TO BOOGIE
Let it all hang out and boogie children. Wrote this one as I
was walking along Ste-Catherine Street in Montreal one summer
day.
SUMMERTIME
A classic which sounds great on harmonica. Another acoustic
live cut in the studio with a "C" harp around my neck
and my old J-45 chugging out the chords.
LUNGARDI
Played on a tiny Jew's harp which I bought in Katmandu. I
wrote the lyrics for my mother. Incidently Lungardi is Nepalese
for one-legged-woman and Lungardo means a one-legged man.
I'M A BLUESMAN
Built around a bass line, this is another blues which I've
been playing for many years.
longtemps.
MUST BE A SINNER
David Parker helps out with lyrics and vocals.
BALLAD OF JAMES SCOTT
A true story I picked up from the Rescue Team while trekking
in the Himalayas.
Colorado.
BELLE-AMIE BLUES
A fantasy about a real, beautiful cat in Quebec City. The
cat's mistress contributed most of the lyrics and coached me on
the pronunciation.
moi.
KEEPIN' THE FAITH
A harmonica tune which provided the melody for Be Bob Beluga.
Close your eyes and watch the beluga dancing.
