You would think that I, being a bit of a radio geek, would be fully immersed in .mp3 music. But I'm not.

I think I have downloaded only four .mp3 files in my life. One of these files I just downloaded yesterday. It was a song that I had been seeking out for some time - in new and used record shops - but to no avail. Until yesterday, I couldn't even dig up an mp3 even though the song was a cult-classic from the eighties.

I figure that the song suddenly emerged as an mp3 file on the web the moment the album was re-released in a cd format. Not because transfering an lp to mp3 is impossible; it's just a a bother.

I mention this meaningless event for this one insight: if I was a musician and I was concerned about having my songs poached on the web, I would release my work on vinyl.
