I have to admit, I hesitated before picking the latest issue of COLORS Magazine. The promise of an entire issue dedicated to life within the Lukole refugee camp in Ngara, Tanzania was hardly alluring. I was afraid of feeling bad. I came to my senses, picked it up, walked past all the lifestyle porn, and bought the issue. It became my favourite issue of COLORS. This is the first COLORS issue that I would say had really strong writing, even though it's still presented in its trademark simple and straightforward manner. But like all other issues, the words are dwarfed by the haunting pictures that fill in the blanks of the text and tell the full story. Its strange and sad beauty is a more powerful catalyst for understanding than any essay or TV newscast I have seen on the subject of refugees. COLORS is a magazine that shows humanity, in its fullest meaning of the word. |
