January 31, 2001

As you may have learned from yesterday's lengthy entry, I am an academic librarian. I'll let another personal fact slip through today: I'm a science librarian. I bring this up because I wanted to relate the context of a conversation I had that nicely sets up today's entry.

Yesterday, a colleague of mine gave me some advice on keeping up with the world of science. Until I had the background to know which journals to keep abreast of, he advised me to read the science edition of The New York Times every Tuesday.

On visiting the New York Times Online yesterday, I found a couple items of interest and I emailed the articles to myself (one of my favourite online features). After the article was sent off, I was offered a link that would list the most emailed articles of the day were.

Funny. This was the article that was listed first.
