During my work with Mitsubishi Electric Cooperation from
April 1993 till July 1995 I was making research on the Linear Motors application
in Elevators and particularly the Linear Induction Motor. I was in charge of
solving the problem of thrust ripple due to the joints in the aluminum plates
making the secondary circuit of the LIM. I have written several technical
reports describing the problem of joints and their effects on LIM's
performances and I have suggested two methods for the compensation of the effect
of the joints. My research about LIMs and Joint effects resulted into two patents
and two IEEE transaction papers.

After I joined Sultan Qaboos University I got involved with new
research teams in two new research topics: Power System Analysis and Electric
Energy Management and Saving.
-
Power Systems Analysis: We studied the Voltage Stability of
Muscat-area electric power system of the Ministry of Electricity and Water
(MEW) in the sultanate of Oman. We had a six months research contract which
lead to very interesting results which were summarized in a Technical report
submitted to MEW in June 1999. The report was accepted by MEW and has opened
the door to more research collaboration between SQU and MEW. This research
work led also to the publication of one Journal Paper (still not issued yet)
in the Journal for scientific Research (Science & Technology) at Sultan
Qaboos University (see abstract of the research).
An extended work of this practical research work led to an Award given by the
GCC-Cigre
9th Annual Distinguished Applied Research Award, May 2000.

Power Systems Analysis: We studied the Voltage Stability of
Oman Interconnected power system for the Ministry of Electricity and Water
(MEW) in the sultanate of Oman. We had an eight months research contract which
lead to very interesting results which were summarized in a Technical report
submitted to MEW in June 2000. The report was submitted to MEW.
