SKATEBOARDING

BASIC STEPS...

  • The Ollie :
  • The ollie is the most important trick you will ever learn in skateboarding. Every other trick comes from the ollie. I will try, the best that I can, to tell you how to ollie. First, stand on your board. There is no proper place to put your feet. Everybody has different styles or ways to do it. You just have to make sure that your back foot is on the tail of the board, and your front foot is somewhere in front of your back foot. When you ollie, you jump in the air, and your board comes with you. It's pretty easy to jump, but the hard part is to get the board to come with you. Press your back foot down on the tail hard and jump off of that foot. This will make the nose of your board pop up. All you have to do to make your board come up with your feet is to push the nose down when it's popping up. That is because it will even out the board and the whole thing will come up. The way to even it out is to, after you've popped your nose up, slide your front foot forward towards the nose. It sounds impossible, and it probably will be when you first try it, but after you've gotten used to it, it becomes one solid movement that you don't even have to think about doing. That is something else: don't think in your head "ok, I gotta jump, slide my foot, press the tail, bla bla." That'll just mess you up. You just have to do it. Sounds dumb, but it's the truth. Once you can ollie, you've started the path to a whole universe of things to do with your board.

  • The 180 :
  • If you can ollie, you should be able to learn this trick. This trick is when you and your board turns halfway around. What you have to do is ollie, and try to turn. Actually, you start to turn before you even ollie. That way, when you're in the air, you will be on your way already. It's hard to explain. It is easier to 180 with your front foot going to the backwards then forwards. I dunno, just try it or something.

  • The kickflip :
  • A kickflip is when you jump up, and the board flips under you, and you land back on it. To do this, start like you're ollieing, but kick your front foot backwards hitting the board with your toes. This should make the board flip backwards. Do it tons of times until you are sure you can land on it. You have to make sure you jump up so you have enough time for the board to flip all the way. It's a hard one.

  • The heelflip :
  • The kickflip, only backwards. You ollie, but when you slide your front foot forward, you let your heel slide off the far edge of the board. When it goes off of the side of the nose, it makes it flip.
