If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.~Philippians 2:1-4
Shilsup was held for the first time this year at Highland Springs Resort, Beaumont, CA. Of course there were Shilsups in Korea but this was the first of its kind here in North America. Many hours of preparation came into this event and brothers and sisters from all over the world came together to participate in this meaningful event. The theme of Shilsup comes from Philipians Chapter 2 verses 1 through 4. As stated above, the purpose of this shilsup was to unite as one and work toward the glory of God, engagin in fellowship through the hardships of working, eating, sleeping, singing, praying, and studying together. Another underlying purpose was to prepare for the upcoming soo yang heh. All in all, Shilsup 97 was a success, and practically all those that experience it, whether a day or the whole month, appreciated the experience as worthwhile and fun. And many of those that were not able to attend this years Shilsup went home with regrets. Hopefully this page will give you a better insight into our many activities.
A Typical Day of Shilsup
Morning Exercises
Every morning, we would wake up to the sounds of people yelling at us. As we stumbled outside to beat the 6:00 AM deadline, we would realize that the sun hasn't come up yet. Then Peter would lead us in jumping jacks and stretches. We would usually have to count to 10 not voicing the last number. If someone did goof up (which someone usually did), then we got on the wet floor and did 10 pushups (again not voicing the last number). When stretches were over, we would run up the mountain in an attempt to get more physically fit. In my opinion, it was an attempt to get more physically fatigued, but I had to admit, everything we did was worthwhile. After jogging up that mountain, we would go back into our rooms to wash up and read the bible.
