I guess I'll go with that basic format that we all start off with. You know, the "Hi, my name is...blah blah, yadda yadda...". My real name is Joe. I grew up in southern Oklahoma, hence the okie part of my handle, and I used to be an IT on Active Duty in the U S Navy, hence the latter. I really thought I hated the Navy, that's why I got out. I thought it wasn't the place for anyone unless you are an experienced brown noser. Now that I have been in the 'real world' for a couple years, I've realized it's not that bad in the Navy. I did 3 years SELRES in the Naval Reserves, but when the time came to re-enlist in March 2004 in the reserves, they told me there was no room for E-5 ITs anymore. And so, that chapter of my life came to a close.
I'm currently 31 years old and live in Arlington, TX. I went to the University of Texas at Arlington for a couple semesters back in 2001. My major was Management Information Systems. At the moment (and forever), I am boycotting UTA and their financial aid office. After UTA, I moved on to Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA and graduated with an AA inElectronic Media Studies and was one class away from a second AA in Sociology. I will be chasing a BA in Sociology start in Fall 2007 after taking a year off. I was starting to burn out bad during my final semester at Iowa Western and need time to find that desire to do homework again.
At least I decided to go Greek while I was at UTA and I'm an alumnus of Beta Theta Pi. I enjoy anything that has to do with being outside. Whether it be work or play. I especially like outdoorsman stuff like camping, hiking, fishing, etc... Although, I only practice catch-and-release when I fish. I love basketball. I wish I was still in good enough shape to contend on the courts. I've been more of a homebody since I graduated from college, but I still get out and kick it with friends or catch a random flick. Speaking of movies, I saw "An Incovenient Truth" while it was in theaters and wow! I thought I knew a lot about global warming, but I didn't know the half of it. I'm stepping up my efforts to conserve energy and stopping global warming. I encourage everyone that reads this to do the same.
I guess I'll go ahead and mention some of my Family and Friends. First off, I have to mention Ludwig Schweinfurth V, or better know to his friends as 'Luke'. Second, I have to say what is up to Brad (AKA Blaaad). they're both Army Reservists and have done their time defending Freedom for All Mankind in Iraq. Brad's one of my closest friends. Nate, Sugar, Sayre, and all of my fraternity bros from back in the day at UTA, I wouldn't be the man I am without y'all. One of my best friends of all time is Justin. He's been one of my closest friends for more than 12 years now. We lose contact every now and then, but our paths always cross again. I feel that any mention of him without the inclusion of a Lard Truck
, 50 mile chase after an incident with a Taco Bell cup, or Slick Panseys would just not be ethical. Jonas has pretty much been my best friend since 1987, so I probably should mention him and all. He's a computer geek for some big company in Dallas. He has a whore of an ex-wife, but at least something good came out of that experience for him. He has a couple of sons he loves more than life itself. They are Tyler and Caleb. Finally, but far from least there is Paul, my ex-roommate in Jackson, MS before I started college. He was murdered at work June 25th, 2002 by two men robbing the place. Paul was my oldest friend. We met in the summer of 1983 at church camp.
