i love music. it encompasses all areas of my life. you see, my parents live in Florida during the winter and i drive to visit them at Christmas, if i did not have a stereo system in my car i would go insane during my 21 hour drive.
i loved band. marching band was my favorite thing about high school. as i have said on another page, my band director was a major influence in my life. i talk with him still, it is nice to hear how the band is doing and to get to know him better as a person. i went to the Longhorn Band Camp while in high school and figured out then that i wanted to march in the band when i got to college. i did not make the Longhorn Band, but i have become involved with another sports band in the music department, the BASKETBALL BAND. so far we have been having lots of fun and playing some great music (except for the orchestrated version of Wannabe by the Spice Girls).
in my sophomore year of hs, Mr. Meza(my director) switched me to bass clarinet. two weeks before the mass band Christmas concert. i never want to go back. i love my baby bass. i was a member of the flag section in my hs marching band. marching season was my favorite thing. i did not care that i had to be at school by 6:45 in the morning(at that age the hour did not seem that early), and i usually had reheasal after school as well. my freshman year of hs i was in the pep squad(what you do so that you can try out for the dance team or cheerleading squad), i loved watching the band. that was the last year that UIL State Marching Contest was held on a yearly basis. they cut music funding so that more football teams could be in the playoffs.
that year the Ram Band performed Phantom of the Opera. we placed second in state and got the only standing ovation. what an awesome musical. [i was lucky to see in in london, it was soo beautiful.]
my junior year we got to go to state again, we did not make it to the finals as we had hoped. that year we did Carmina Burana. we even chanted while marching.
my senior year was just a big let down. i don't even remember the title of the show.
but i do remember another major influence in my life, musically and otherwise
...my band big sis...Jennifer. she and i keep in touch still. we got stuck together in the
fall of '91. here is a pic of us taken just last year.
as i said i played clarinet, but i prefer to stick with bass clarinet. i like to play the tuba and baritone parts more than dealing with all of the runs that the clarinets have. i am lazy. but somehow i get stuck with tenor sax parts now that i am in the BBB. grrrr.
coming soon...music links
