Waknuk's name comes from the tradition created by the Old People, who also named this area Waknuk. The foundations of buildings and the scar in the mountain are all the remain from the Old People. Waknuk is now a peaceful, god-abiding rural community.
Although few in number, housing in Waknuk varies in size. Waknuk houses all are made of plastered wattle built around a frame of stable timber. Some of the older houses even contain materials from the Old People. Inside the houses, the largest and most important room is the living room. This room is also the kitchen. It is a Waknuk custom that life is centered around this room.
Some notable people who live in the area include Joseph Strom, son of founding father Elias Strom, Mr. Axel, explorer, the notorious "Inspector", judge of deviations and Angus Morton, Importer of Great Horses. |
