Bryan Invitational
HEMPSTEAD - Kelley Louth and Jordan Byers were tied for the individual lead
and the Memorial Lady Vipers were coasting Friday after the first round of the
Bryan Invitational. Louth and Byers both recorded 75s to share the lead by four
strokes over A&M Consolidate's Jacquelyn Nemcik. Nemcik carded a 79. Behind
Louth and Byers, Laura Baker posted an 85, Caleigh Etheredge an 86 and Julie
Kerslake a 90. Memorial posted a 321 team score and was 53 strokes in front
of A&M Consolidate going into today's final round.
- Kelley Louth shot a 68 on Saturday to set a course and tournament record
while winning medalist honors at the Bryan Invitational Golf Tournament. Louth
shot a 75 on Friday at Legendary Oaks in Hempstead before coming back with her
record round on the Texas A&M Course to finish with a two-day total of 143.
Memorial's Jordan Byers was second medallist after shooting a pair of 75s to
finish at 150. The Lady Vipers easily won the team title by shooting 321-313-634.
A&M Consolidated was second with a 374-344-718 and Houston Memorial was third
with a 385-376-761. Memorial's Caleigh Etheredge shot an 86-84-170, Laura Baker
had an 85-86-171 and Julie Kerslake shot a 90-88-178.
A & M Invitational
The Memorial Vipers found themselves in 15th place Friday after the first round
of the A&M Consolidated Invitational, 23 strokes behind first-round leader Kingwood.
Kingwood was in at 301, followed by The Woodlands at 302 and Fort Bend Elkins
at 303, while the Vipers carded a 324. Matt Hillyer led the way for Memorial
with a 77 and was followed by Eric Schneider (80), Chris Pribyl (82), Ray Pucciarello
(85) and Scott Nichol (87). Final-round action for the Vipers begins today at
8:25 a.m. at Pebble Creek Country Club. Vipers place 12th
The Memorial Vipers finished in 12th place in the A&M Consolidated Tiger Classic
Saturday at the Pebble Creek Country Club in College Station. Memorial shot
a 324 in Friday's first round and had a 316 on Saturday for a 640 total. Matt
Hillyer (77-81) and Erich Schneider (8078) both finished with 158 totals to
pace the Vipers. They were followed by Chris Pribyl (82-81-163), Ray Pucciarello
(85-83-168) and Scott Nicol (87-76-163).
Corpus Christi King Invitational
The Memorial Lady Vipers opened up a 17-stroke lead Friday over the Yoakum
Lady Bulldogs at the 2002 Corpus Christi ISD Fall Classic at Kings Crossing.
Kelley Louth took the individual lead with an opening-round 72 and Jordan Byers
added a 77 as the Lady Vipers carded a first-round 317. Yoakum, with four players
shooting in the 80s, was in at 334 and 18 strokes ahead of San Antonio Southside
Red, which finished at 352. Behind Louth and Byers for Memorial, Caleigh Etheredge
added an 83, Julie Kerslake an 84 and Laura Baker an 85. Leading Yoakum was
Marjorie Matthew with an 82, while Heather Dorris added an 83, Brittany Chumchal
an 84 and Emily Kvinta an 85. Kristen Driskell carded a 97. MHS girls roll to
title.
The Memorial Lady Vipers improved their team score by eight strokes on Saturday
and ran away with the team championship of the Corpus Christi ISD Fall Classic
at Kings Crossing. Memorial shot a 309 on Saturday after shooting 317 in Friday's
opening round. Memorial's 626 easily outdistanced Yoakum, which finished second
after shooting rounds of 334 and 352 for a 686. San Antonio Southside finished
third with a 352-344 - 696. Memorial's Kelley Louth claimed medallist honors
with a 73-72-145. Jordan Byers finished third with a 77-78-155. Memorial's Caleigh
Etheredge shot an 83-80-163, Laura Baker shot an 89-75-164 and Julie Kerslake
shot an 84-82-166.
Lake Travis Tournament
The Memorial Vipers claimed the first-round lead Friday in the Lake Travis
Fall State Preview Golf Tournament at the Roy Kizer Municipal Golf Course. Memorial
leads the tournament with a 311 and is followed by Granbury (316), Round Rock
Westwood (317) and Snyder (319). "It was cold and windy," said Memorial golf
coach Ben Johnson. "Shooting 311 in those conditions was good so I was pleased
with it. We'll see if we can hold our position in the final round." Erich Schneider
led the Vipers with a 74 and was followed by Ray Pucciarello (77), Evan Clark
(78), Matt Hillyer (82) and Chris Pribyl (91). The individual medalist leader
was Georgetown's Russell Helson, who carded a 72. The final round will be played
today at the same golf course and the Vipers will tee off at 11:47 a.m. Vipers
place fourth in Fall State Preview
The rain came and washed away Memorial's hopes for a team championship at
the Lake Travis Fall State Preview Golf Tournament at the Roy Kizer Municipal
Course. Memorial shot a 311 on Friday to hold the first-round lead. But the
Vipers shot a 344 on Saturday and finished in fourth place with a 36-hole total
of 655. Snyder, which was in fourth place on Friday, won the team championship
with back-to-back rounds of 319 for a 638 total. Russell Helson of Georgetown
captured medallist honors with rounds of 72 and 73 for a 145. Erich Schneider
paced Memorial with a 74-83-157. Evan Clark shot a 78-86-164, Ray Pucciarello
had a 77-89-166, Matt Hillyer shot an 82-85-167 and Chris Pribyl had a 91-89-180.
Converse Judson Tournament
It was a tough day for the Memorial Vipers golf team at the Converse Judson Fall
Classic. With the pins tucked in tight spots and the tee boxes at the tips at
Olympia Hills, the Vipers fired a final round 361 to finish eighth at the event
with a two-day total 698. Memorial stood at seventh with a 337 on Friday. Erich
Schneider paced the Vipers with a two-day 165 after rounds of 80-85. Schneider
was followed by Chris Pribyl with an 82-87-169. Ray Pucciarello added an 86-94-180,
Bradley Bongers an 89-95-184 and Evan Clark a 91-97-188.
Border Olympics Golf Tournament
Memorial shot a better score, but dropped one position at the Border Olympics
on Saturday at the Casa Blanca Golf Course. After shooting a 318 in Friday's first
round, the Vipers had a 312 on Saturday to finish with a 630. But Memorial fell
from second to third behind Corpus Christi Ray, which won the tournament with
a 303-318-621, and Converse Judson, which finished second with a 319-306-625.
"We did a little bit better today," said Memorial coach Ben Johnson. "We were
kind of battling the flu bug. To get into the top three in that field, I felt
pretty good about that. It will give us something to build on." Ray's Gregory
Catlett earned medallist honors after shooting rounds of 70 and 71 for a 36-hole
total of 3-under par 141. Ray Pucciarello led Memorial with an 80-73-155. Eric
Schneider shot an 80-75-155, Chris Pribyl had a 79-79-158, Matt Hillyer shot 82-85-167
and Bradley Bongers with a 79-92-171. Memorial will play in the McAllen Tournament,
which will be held at San Antonio's Cedar Creek course on March 7-8.
Woodlands Invitational Golf Tournament
Memorial was in third place after the opening round of The Woodlands Invitational
on Monday. Playing on The Woodlands Tournament Players Course, The Woodlands grabbed
the team lead with a 328 and was followed by Montgomery (347), Memorial (348),
The Woodlands B (362), Austin Westlake (364) and San Antonio Reagan (367). Reagan's
Caney Heinz led the individual medalist race with a 74. Kelly Louth led the Lady
Vipers with an 80 and was followed by Jordan Byers (82), Caleigh Etheredge (91),
Laura Baker (95) and Julie Kerslake (99). The final round of the tournament will
be today at the Gary Player Course in The Woodlands. == Lady Vipers get 2nd place
January 22, 2003 THE WOODLANDS - Starting the day one stroke behind Montgomery,
the Memorial Lady Vipers used a tiebreaker Tuesday to claim second place at The
Woodlands Invitational golf tournament. The Woodlands, the top-ranked Class 5A
team in the state, coasted to an easy victory with rounds of 318-306 - 624. Memorial
and Montgomery however hooked up in a fight for second that went down to the fifth
players score to determine the tiebreaker. Playing the Gary Player Course, the
Lady Vipers used an 82 from Jordan Byers, an 87 fro, Caleigh Etheredge, an 88
from Kelley Louth and a 90 from Laura Baker to record a 347, bettering their opening
round by one stroke, tying Montgomery for second. Julie Kerslake's 91 gave the
Lady Vipers the second-place trophy.
St. Joseph's Invitational Golf Tournament
Memorial swept the top two spots at the St. Joseph Lady Flyers Golf tournament on Tuesday, while Calhoun's Kim Marek won her third individual title of the season.
Amy Kocian, Erin Conaway and Liz Cubriel each carded a 96 to pace the Lady Vipers A-team to the team title with a 386 at Colony Creek Country Club. Anne Acerra added a 98 and Lauren Tipton finished with a 104.
Sarah Hermosillo paced the Memorial B-team with a 91 as it finished 21 strokes behind the A-team with a 407. Christina Ganem added a 100 and was followed by Amber Koehl (107) and Randi Rolland (109). Jacque Lopez finished with a 123.
Marek, meanwhile, carded an 84 to claim her third title. She has also placed first at the Bay City and West Columbia tournaments this season.
St. Joseph's Harper Davis finished five shots behind Marek with an 89 to place second, while Hermosillo's 91 placed her third.
Memorial also won the junior varsity boys division with a 335 behind a first-place finish from Nick Carrillo with a 76 and a second-place finish from Justin West (80). St. Joseph's Philip Brown finished third with an 83 as the Flyers took the runner-up spot with a 363.
Austin ISD Golf Tournament
The Memorial Lady Vipers shot their best round of the year and claimed the first-round lead of the Austin ISD Golf Tournament on Friday at the Roy Kizer Golf Course.
The Lady Vipers had a 299 total and held a five-shot lead over Allen. Austin Westlake was third with a 316 and Yoakum was fourth with a 323.
Kelley Louth shot a 2-under par 69 to take the individual lead in the 16-team tournament, which is being held on the course where the state tournament will be played.
Memorial's Laura Baker shot a 75, Caleigh Etheridge had a 77, Jordan Byers shot a 78 and Julie Kerslake had an 83.
Saturday - Rained forced the cancellation of Saturday's second round allowing the Memorial Lady Vipers to claim the team title at the Austin ISD Tournament at Roy Kizer Golf Course.
The Lady Vipers behind a 69 from Kelley Louth turned in a first-round 299 on Friday for a five-stroke victory over Allen (304). Austin Westlake finished third at 316 and Yoakum was fourth at 323.
Louth claimed individual honors, while Ashley Deatherage of Bryan was the runner-up with a 71.
Louth was followed by Laura Baker with a 75, Caleigh Etheredge a 77, Jordan Byers a78 and Julie Kerslake an 83.
Heather Dorris paced Yoakum with a 77 and was followed by Emily Kvinta (78), Brittany chumchal (82), Marjorie Matthew (86) and Kendra Hiller (92).
Nano Rodriguez Memorial Golf Tournament
Memorial's Evan Clark won top-medalist honors with a 72 to lead the Vipers B-team to the team title in Monday's Nano Rodriguez Memorial Golf Tournament at the Oso Municipal Course.
Drew Adams and Kyle Marek each fired 77s to also lead Memorial, which finished with a 308. Marcus Padilla (82) and Josh Schroeder (83) also led Memorial.
Corpus Christi King finished second with a 323 and Corpus Christi Carroll was third with a 335.
Northeast ISD Invitational Golf Tournament
The Memorial Vipers improved six strokes from their opening round score Saturday, finishing with a final-round 330 at the Northeast ISD Invitational golf tournament at Mission Del Lago.
The Vipers carded a two-day 669 team score.
Chris Pribyl paced the Vipers with an 80-76-156, while Eric Schneider followed with an 87-81-168. Matt Hillyer added an 84-85-169, with Scott Nicol coming in with a pair of 88s for a 176. Bradley Bongers wrapped up the scoring with a 91-89-180.
District 29-5A Tournament
It may have been a change of scenery for the Memorial Lady Vipers golf team, but the results after the first day of the District 29-5A Tournament, the Lady Vipers appear headed to another sweep of the top two positions.
The Memorial A-team was in solid command after claiming the top five individual spots en route to a 331 at Kings Crossing Country Club. The MHS B-team was 57 strokes back at 388 and well ahead of third place Corpus Christi King. King was in at 436.
Corpus Christi Carroll held fourth place with a 443 and Corpus Christi Moody followed at 460.
Kelley Louth turned in rounds of 40-36 for a 76 and a seven-stroke advantage in the individual race.
The first round was played in windy conditions that at times gusted to nearly 30 mph. Following Louth for the Memorial A-team was Caleigh Etheredge (83), Laura Baker (84), Julie Kerslake (88) and Jordan Byers (89).
Madeline Clark led the B-team with a 94 and was followed by Anne Acerra (95), Erin Conaway (99), Stacey Sistrunk a 100 and Amy Kocian a 111.
Playing as medallists, Sarah Hermosill carded a 103, Liz Cubriel a 104 and Lauren Tipton a 109.
The final round tees off today at 8 a.m. The top two teams advance to the Region IV-5A Tournament to be played April 22-23 at Willow Springs Golf Course in San Antonio.
Tuesday- For the third straight year, the Memorial Lady Vipers golf team has dominated their district.
The Lady Vipers claimed the top two spots at the District 29-5A Golf Tournament on Wednesday two send two teams to the Region IV-5A Tournament for the third consecutive year. The regional tournament will be held April 22-23 at Willow Springs Golf Course in San Antonio.
Memorial left little doubt they were the top two teams after Tuesday's opening round with the Lady Vipers A-team taking a 57-stroke advantage over their counterparts and the B-team holding a 55-stroke edge over its nearest competitor.
Both teams increased those leads Wednesday with the Lady Vipers A-team claiming the top five individual spots en route to a final round 313 and a two-day 644, a 136-stroke advantage over the B-team.
The MHS B-team meanwhile finished with a final round 392 to finish at 780 to outdistance Corpus Christi King by 62 strokes. King finished third with an 842, while Corpus Christi Carroll followed at 875, with Corpus Christi Moody next at 891. Kelley Louth easily claimed top individual honors with a 76-74-150 and was followed by her teammate Caleigh Etheredge who had an 83-79-162. Following the duo were Laura Baker (84-81-165), Jordan Byers (89-79_168) and Julie Kerslake (88-85-177).
King's Adrian Sportsman finished sixth with a 101-85-186 to earn a berth to the regional tournament as a medalist.
Anne Acerra paced the Memorial B-team with a 95-96-191. She was followed by Madeline Clark (94-103-197), Amy Kocian (111-91-202), Stacey Sistrunk (100-102-202), and Erin Conaway (99-105-204).
Playing as emdalists for Memroial, Liz Cubriel carded a 104-98-202, Sarah Hermosillo a 103-104-207 and Lauren Tipton a 109-103-212.
All five members of the MHSA-team, along with Sportmans of King, Abby Salge of Carroll and Angelica Recio of Moody, were named to the all-distirct first team. All five members of the MHSB-team, along with Kristi Brownlee of Carroll, and Veroinca Trevino, Skylar Rainwater and Erica Escobar of King, were named to the second team.
Tipton, Cubriel and Hermosillo received honorable mention selections.
