I have always been a dog lover, and golden retrievers are my favorite breed. This page is intended to give access to some relevant sites giving information owning, taking care of, and feeding goldens as well as giving general information about the breed. This page does not link to sites whose primary purpose is breeding goldens. Rather, this page is intended to educate and entertain readers with useful sites about this type of dog. There is some redundancy in these sites, but each of them is somewhat different.
The picture above is a picture of my golden retriever, Boomer. To see a real ad that appeared in The Post and Currier, Charleston, SC, click here. This is not actually my dog, but the dog in the ad (and his name) are very similar to my dog.
Golden FAQS- This is a very comprehensive site with general FAQS, a history of the breed, temperament information, information on common medical problems, grooming, breed and hunting clubs, areas to "rescue" unowned goldens, and a bibliography of books and periodicals for more information. This site is a must see.
South Meadow Golden Retrievers- This is a slow loading page with java and audio files, but it contains advice on picking a breeder, training and taking care of a puppy, housebreaking, and a couple of safety tips; a good site.
Live, Love and Laugh with Golden Retrievers- This is a slow loading site with a "Wizard of Oz" theme. It includes a search engine for the site, massive amounts of information, stories and amazing feats involving the golden, a gallery, and some games. The site initially seems a little juvenile, but it is very useful and comprehensive.
Golden Retrievers in Cyberspace- This is a thorough site including information on adoptable goldens, items for sale, articles with essential information, fun stuff, and links to clubs and organizations. This is a good site with more than just information.
Ragtym's Golden Retriever Information Page-This site contains links to pages with basic information about goldens, articles on breeding, and fun stuff. Though there is little information on the site itself, this is a good starting point when searching for golden retrievers.
Golden Retriever Club of America- This is the website of a national organization. There are links to local chapters, rescue sites, breed standards and rules, health issues, and a place to buy stickers, books, etc. The site also contains an application to become a member. This is a site that is very useful for someone who is or wants to be a golden owner.
Warnings About Owning Golden Retrievers- This site is a must see for anyone considering owning a golden. While there is not a large amount of information here, the site contains essential facts about the characteristics of the breed.
Golden Retriever Review, an online magazine- This is a commercial website for a golden retriever magazine. The site is very oriented towards breeders and getting subscriptions, but some useful information on purchasing a golden and health issues, dog show information and results, and a search engine for the site. This is a decent site, but there is not a lot of information.
Canadian Goldens- This is a site for Canadian golden owners, but it contains useful material for everyone. It has rescue information, characteristics, breeders, training, health information, and many links to all kinds of golden sites. The site also has a discussion forum.
Yahoo! Pets on Golden Retrievers- This site gives information on the general appearance, owning, and temperament as well as interesting facts and links to ads where you can adopt goldens and clubs dedicated to the breed. This is not a comprehensive site; it is basic information.
Circle of Gold Webring- This is the homepage for a golden retriever webring of around 500 sites - a very good starting point. The webring contains a search engine which makes navigation easier.
Feeding Golden Retrievers- The best diet to feed the golden and an attempt to eliminate some of the myths about the breed. This is a good site with very comprehensive feeding information.
The American Kennel Club's Breed Standard for the Golden Retriever- The official breed standard - all of the characteristics and qualification for a dog to be classified as a golden retriever. This is a must see for anyone who wants a true golden.
Cyperpet-Pet Info- This is a commercial site with breed information, rescue information, articles on finding a pet, a chat area, a breeders showcase area, and pet products. This is a very good site, though animations and audio files slow down the loading of the site.
The Dog Query in Cyperpet. The link to the Cyberpet dog breed query. There are many breeds listed, though the individual breed information is not as thorough as it is in the American Kennel Club.
