Goin' South...February 1998

After meeting in the "billh chat room" and talking on ICQ for months, we got to know "Towanda"... We talked on land-line phone too, and found out we related in a way those of us in the program have come to understand.
we finally decided to act on her invitation... & went on down to meet her and her new hubby in their brand new home...
Here they are... Angela & Carl. Our "adopted family". (oh, and Scarlett, their huge black lab puppy who likes to swim in the creek out back and who has to be rescued from drowning, still :-)

The best part of the trip was the time we spent getting to know & love our new friends, and sharing our mutual experience, strength and hope!

We got tour of Fayetteville, too -- home of "Gone with the Wind". . . and some of the beautiful old homes there-- even Margaret Mitchell's model for Tara! Warm people, Southern hospitality, great Bar-B-Que, and warm weather, too...a great break from icy Ohio winter). Here's the historic fayetteville courthouse...

Never missing the chance to wander, we took a "slight detour" on the way home. We headed for the NC Smoky Mts., & stopped in Asheville, where we toured the beautiful Biltmore Estate.

With a stunning, panoramic view of the Great Smoky Mountains, the 250-room mansion is absolutely breath-taking! A warm, sunny spring day provided the perfect opportunity to gawk some more (one of our most favorite habits these days).
Again, what a wondrous world our God has created for us!

Leaving, the drive was 26 miles downhill back out of the Smokies, another awesome sight, with sheer cliffs, stately pines, roaring mountain streams, and snow-capped peaks over a mile high!

We'll have to go back when we have more time to explore the mountains! In the spring, there had been a horrible storm, with heavy, wet snowfall and the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed due to downed trees.

Heading into the unknown with nothing but our faith, our imaginations, and our curiosity to explore God's world and meet his children has been rewarding joyful for us!
Think about visiting us some time!
You're especially welcome to join us at the
Punderson Park Conference in May & September each year
