The best part of the trip was the time we spent getting to know & love our new friends, and sharing our mutual experience, strength and hope!
We got tour of Fayetteville, too -- home of "Gone with the Wind". . . and some of the beautiful old homes there-- even Margaret Mitchell's model for Tara! Warm people, Southern hospitality, great Bar-B-Que, and warm weather, too...a great break from icy Ohio winter). Here's the historic fayetteville courthouse...
Never missing the chance to wander, we took a "slight detour" on the way home. We headed for the NC Smoky Mts., & stopped in Asheville, where we toured the beautiful Biltmore Estate.
With
a stunning, panoramic view of the Great Smoky Mountains, the 250-room mansion is absolutely breath-taking! A warm, sunny spring day provided the perfect opportunity to gawk some more (one of our most favorite habits these days).
Again,
what a wondrous world our God has created for us!
Leaving, the drive was 26 miles downhill back out of the Smokies, another awesome sight, with sheer cliffs, stately pines, roaring mountain streams, and snow-capped peaks over a mile high!
We'll have to go back when we have more time to explore the mountains! In the spring, there had been a horrible storm, with heavy, wet snowfall and the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed due to downed trees.
