Texto tomado del libro Training the Mind and the Practice of Meditation by Venerable Phra Ajahn Yantra Amaro, durante mi visita al Giant Buddha, y Po Lin Monastery en Lantau Island, Hong Kong - 2006

  1. Try not to forget yourself in every speech, action and thought.
  2. Live simply without any elaboration, but don’t be careless.
  3. Teaching is a form of service to others; however, it’s much better to teach oneself.
  4. Be careful in using your organs:  eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind.  Also be careful not to let your mind fall into traps.  Try to control the arising of feelings.
  5. One who conquers another person may be considered a victor.  But one who conquers his emotions Is far better.
  6. Happily accept each phenomena as it really is.  Contemplate your relationship with things.  Be careful to make the most of them.
  7. We should do whatever does not harm others.  Develop your goodness and make merits.
  8. Work hard and carefully.  Do not be irresponsible.
  9. The great thief hiding within oneself is laziness.
  10. Patience may cause suffering and distress at the beginning. But it will give delight in the end.
  11. Avoid getting involved in gambling.  Develop morality and loving-kindness. And be responsible for your duties.
  12. Consider the essence of all things.  Your mind and heart will naturally be committed to goodness.  Contemplate the birth and death of all beings.  Don’t feel attached when you contact people or things.
  13. Don’t talk too much, but do whatever you talk about.  Think every time you talk.  Don’t speak out every word you think.
  14. We are good when we don’t feel attached.  If you are determined to observe regulations, you are a really good monk.  Don’t feel sorry if you are deprived of your properties.  Maintain a brave mind.  Fight against defilements and you will have a pure mind.
  15. Be thoughtful.  When an idea arises, stop and think.  Be mindful and look inwards.  Be aware of the present condition.
  16. Do everything you are responsible for.  Do it with love and care and purity of mind.
  17. If you practice giving things away and observing the precepts, you have already developed meditation, wisdom and loving-kindness.  Your life will progress accordingly.
  18. Rise above phenomena.  Understand each contact.  So doing, we will conquer suffering.
  19. Be moderate.  Be modest.  Develop loving-kindness, wisdom and purity of mind.
