What's the good word for today? Gum. Today, "gum" is the word. I saw Rick walking down the hall today as I was getting to my office, and, naturally, I bought him a pack of gum.

It's not as silly as it sounds. It is a symbol of fun… of freedom, if you will. Today, Rick got his braces off. I'm cheering inside… Really! [Bastard!] I think Trudy may have gotten him some caramel or apples or something. Think of it as that first drink when a friend turns twenty-one. We, Trudy and I (and Rick until recently), are enduring orthodontic work. I'm so jealous!

It's funny. I can't remember the last time I had gum before I got my braces, and similarly with whole apples. Although now I can't wait until I get these suckers off. It'll only be a few more months, or I'll have to have some serious words with my orthodontist, who goes by "Dr. J". [I can't make this up…] So I'm patiently awaiting the days of chewing gum.

See?! I'm relatively easy to please… Chewing Gum.

Oh, and the occasional screaming of my name from the top of your lungs. That too.

And today there's dinner with Nancy. I'll admit I had some reservations about meeting. We went to a Mexican place. It turns out I had little to worry about; let's just leave it at that. She treated me for dinner… [Thanks!]

During dinner I had tried my first coconut margarita. It was very good, but then again I'm biased. I love just about anything made with coconut. I'm in the firm opinion that coconut should be its own food group. It is absolutely wonderful. Maybe it is a fondness that stems from having lived in the Tropics?

Me?! Insane?! Hardly. I just have a strong fondness for coconut.

After dinner, we went to Michael's, which is an art and craft store. …except that the local one didn't have what she was looking for, so we ended up going to one in Lynnwood, about twenty minutes away. We shopped around for a bit. I looked briefly at sketchbooks. I toyed with the idea of getting another one, but quickly dismissed it. Having more sketchbooks is not going to spontaneously will me into sketching more frequently. Not that I'm experience the illustrator's equivalent of writer's block or anything like that. I just simply haven't had the time or inclination to sketch anything lately.

Yes, I realize that I'll pick up and do it when it becomes important enough. I won't lose too much sleep over it.

We followed Michael's by going to Alderwood Mall. A few days ago, I had seen a cell phone gadget that I had gotten for my phone and wanted to pick one up for a friend of mine. As luck would have it, they were out of them. [Sigh]

We stopped by a few stores. We even passed this calendar place that was selling their calendars at 75% off. The Boris Vallejo calendar was normally priced for $10. I could get this calendar for $2.50 (plus sales tax). Now, I know what you're going to say…
"What on earth are you going to do with three calendars?"
I ended up getting it. You're probably thinking that I have a calendar fetish. Let's just say I'm versatile…
