Okay, not much of an entry today, since it wasn't all that eventful. I was
reading a journal entry
today and it didn't occur to me that today was leap day. Not just any leap
day, it was a leap day that is unique every four hundred years. I'll be
damned if I was going to miss making a journal entry today. Thus I figured
that I would talk about some other random things that have been going on in
my head. Yes, I know
very dangerous.
Now, when I drink sodas (incidentally, it is not pop, it's soda), it is typically Coke. Now, the sodas are free at work, so they're easy to come by. At this point, there's a fairly impressive collection of Coke cans (see picture) in my office. I'm not proud. It's not like I've been trying to accumulate them. It just sort of happened. I know that you can't see them from the picture, but most of these cans are not open. I'm sure some of you are wondering why? Often times, I've thought about it myself. The short answer is that I would go to the kitchen and take one, come back to my office with the intention of drinking it. I set it on my desk and continue to work. Time passes and by the time I get around to it, the Coke is now warm. [Sigh] Thus, these cans slowly acccumulate and take up valuable desk space in my office. Which reminds me, I still haven't found the remote to my CD player in the office. Not that it's that important, but I suppose it is a metric for just how much I really have to clean my office. I was thinking a little about what this little routine means. I soon realized that when I get frustrated at work, I take a little break. When I do this, I normally walk to the kitchen and instinctively reach into the refrigerator and grab a Coke. Seeing as though I am normally not thirsty when I do this, the Coke inevitably ends up unopened on my desk and warm. It's instinctive like pushing up your eyeglasses when you're not wearing any. It's just something you do from time to time without thinking about it. So in a strange way, the collection of Coke cans on my desk is a metric for how frustrated I've been at work. I've also been playing more table tennis at work. I normally play with either Dan or Dugan; I hear a number of other folks also play, but I haven't had the pleasure to play them. I don't know why I instinctively play a defensive chop game. I suppose I started this some time ago. In the interest of improving my game, I have been developing my topspin game. I've even ordered a new racket, which incidentally hasn't arrived yet (Damn!). I then realized that there are four rackets on my desk. The one that I currently use most frequently. The one that I used before that, which is actually the same spongue surface (thought too worn now), but a different bat. I have two other rackets from China. One with the regular "shake-hands" grip and the other with the "penhandle" grip. How on earth do people play with this grip? I just can't get my arm or body to bend that way. What am I doing with four table tennis rackets? February 29, 2000 |
