I did actually wake up in the morning today. No joke! There was
a chance that I would be seeing Cris, who is someone I had worked with a
few years ago; he is among the same group of friends as Rick, Trudy,
and Jim. In many ways Cris is close to
my heart because he was the first program manager that I worked with in a
project. I got to work by 11:30am when the lunch, as of last week, was
scheduled for 11:45am. Cris did have a new born baby this week,
so the chances of seeing him for lunch were pretty slim. Still, I arrived
to lunch, presumably on time, and apparently I had missed it. There
was one piece of mail about the lunch thing, but it was along the
lines of "Are we still having lunch?" and that was pretty much it. Rick
did send me e-mail telling me that I had missed it, but didn't say whether
or not Cris had made it. Bummer.
I had tentative plans to see Pam tonight. We weren't sure what we were doing, but we knew that we were getting together. She had a long afternoon meeting, from 3pm to 5pm and we still hadn't made plans by then. We did talk a little later and agreed on getting dinner and seeing the new John Cusak movie, High Fidelity. We weren't going to meet until later, since it would involve driving across the lake. The Friday evening commute is bad. I don't mean simply bad. I'm talking third worst in the country. Jim suggested we get together with he and his friend for the movie. It was all a matter of how the traffic pans out. As it turns out, the traffic was not being cooperative, so I called and punted lunch plans until tomorrow. Pam also called while I was in traffic, she said that she was tired and thought about cancelling; I suggested we didn't do much just get a quick dinner and go to sleep. She agreed. I was finally able to get to Pam's before 8pm. We ended up having a quick dinner, there was Tup Tim Thai just a few blocks away. She had been there a number of times before, and we had even gotten take out at some point. The food was very good. During dinner she managed to find some renewed vigor, which continued past dinner. We didn't go to sleep right away March 31, 2000 |
