February has seen a few notable releases... You
might realise why Tiger have been getting so
much attention when you hear their single On The Rose.
Trust me, it'as far better than their previous efforts. Another highly
recommended 7 inch is Audioweb's version of
the classic Clash tune, Bankrobber.
Audioweb are touring during the spring, with support during one leg coming in
the form of Republica. If you had your ear
to the ground you may have heard of them early last year when their debut single
Bloke received some Radio 1 airplay. The track
was a pretty catchy little number that you'd swear had been saved up since the
great House explosion of '89 (great year). Sadly the record buying public
gave Bloke rather less attention than the DJ's.
The band then ventured Stateside, finding great success and a growing
fanbase with the Ready To Go single and
accompanying album. Ready To Go, a much rockier affair thn Bloke
finally got it's UK release this month and shot into the UK top 20 at number
14. Well worth a listen!
Stop and listen, for we have one of those rare "Damn good actually sir"
dance releases. Da Funk by Daft Punk
(great name!) was only an underground hit before it leaped into the top 10
this month. It's a pop tune and I like it!
Brighten The Corners (see January) arrived
this month. We had previosly been led to believe it would be a slicker, more
refined pop record than earlier efforts, but it has turned out to be just
like every Pavement record in the end! Good stuff! The character and cool
within shines through the gloss!
