FUSSPILS 11 - Gib Ihn Einen Namen

Fusspils 11 is the long awaited collaboration between the members of Funker Vogt and Ravenous. Gib Ihr Einen Namen is their 11 track debut that fuses together the harshness of Funker Vogt (found mainly in the rhythms and beats) and the melodies of Ravenous. I realize that a lot of people do not care for the style of Ravenous, but do not let that be a deciding factor if you have a chance to acquire this CD. Fusspils 11 sounds much more like Funker Vogt than Ravenous. Even the vocals, which are provided by Ravenous front man Tim Fockenbrock, are much dirtier and rougher than his previous work. Built for the dancefloor, Gib Ihr Einen Namen contains many impressive tracks, including Tempel Der Wahrheit (Aufgemischt); a pulsating electro piece with cascading / cybernized sequences, thick / rolling beats, and aggressive / distorted vocals. Another phenomenal track is the extremely heavy, beat driven Der Schänder (Kinder-Mix.) The Samos-Edit of Griechischer Wein is the only track which may fall short of your expectations. This is the one track that falls more in line with the musical style of Ravenous in that the vocals are smooth, non-distorted, and edge more towards synth-pop. Also, the music on this piece is less threatening and more sequence driven than anything else. The angst-ridden musical structures return on Dein Blut (Asaganal.) This track has some catchy percussion elements that add variety and help develop the songs overall structure. On the Abgemischt version of Tempel Der Wahrheit the music remains fairly similar, but the vocals seem to be pushed further back into the mix, making them barely audible. K-OS (Chaos-Mix) dives into the EBM category with strict beats, shouted vocals, and minimalistic, yet addictive sequences. Ein Kleines Lied (Mucki-Extended) came as quite a surprise. This is the first time I've ever heard these guys compose a techno oriented track, complete with subtle break-beats and samples lifted from Prodigy's debut CD. They do an amazing job with this piece, but I was severely disappointed that they choose to fade it out at just under 3 minutes. Even though I highly recommend Gib Ihr Einen Namem, there are two things that I would have liked to have seen done. First of all, I would have much preferred for the album's lyrics to be in English rather that German. It seems to me that by composing the album entirely in their native tongue, they may be limiting their audience. Secondly, I would have liked to see the inclusion of Gibt's Nich'. This is listed as the twelfth track, but the CD is only 11 tracks long with nothing hidden. Other than those two nit picking complaints I think that Gib Ihr Einen Namen is a top notch product by two top notch acts.
