The FAQ begins... Q. When did RoR first start? Who was involved? Whatever happened to Rob, I miss his reviews! A. Remnants of Reason was first started as Remnants of Reezon back in early 1998 as a web based endeavor by Evan Howell and Rob Carpenter. The page continued in this fashion, adding pages and reviews until 1999, when the first printed zine was made. Rob decided to go back to school at one point and wanted to branch out to different formats with the reviews. As we didn't want to repeat the reviews in different places Rob's old reviews were removed. Q. I'm confused, why the difference between Remnants of Reezon and Remnants of Reason? A. This sort of ties into the above answer. I chose to rename the zine to Remnants of Reason for the first issue since Remnants of REEZON was the name of the radio show that Rob had in college. It fit for the web at the time, but as we were deciding to do different projects, I wanted to give an autonomous name to the project without completely changing the title. Q. What the hell makes you qualified to give reviews on this stuff? I think you're full of sh$t on half of these! (i. e. How could you not like so and so?) A. Well, is anyone really "qualified" to give reviews? Yeah, cop out answer, but as these are really only OPINIONS, they should be taken as such. Use these as a guide, and I think you'll notice pretty early on what I like and dislike. So, if you know that I hate Primal Fear, don't be surprised when I pan their latest album (just an example Ralf, just an example!). It is pretty annoying when you put months or years into making an album, and some goofball reviewer takes ten seconds to listen and pan it, but that's the biz, unfortunately. Really, there's just so much out there that it's hard to give everything a shot. Don't base your decisions on just one page or person's opinion. Read everything out there and be informed! Q. What does the future hold for the page? A. More frequent updates, hopefully! I'm more and less busy than before, but I am interested in keeping the page alive. Only time will tell as to what I can actually do. Q. How can we contact you? A. You can't ah ha ha ha... Just kidding, you can always email me at rofreason@aol.com. |
