TWO NIGHTS ONLY |
Friday morning, Laura and I made our way to New York City. We took a shuttle bus in and the whole ride there I could not believe I was there. I've always wanted to go to New York City and to see Elton and now it was happening. We met up with our friends/weekend roomies Shira and Denise who came in from Rhode Island. Hey Shira, New York is "wicked cool"! After checking in our bags, we got something to eat and hung out at the Garden for the afternoon and met up with more of our Internet buddies. It was so cool to be able to meet the people in person who you've been chatting with for so long. |
A few hours before show time, we decided to go check out our room and freshen up. We couldn't believe the great view from our window...a brick wall. Haha! I thought these things only happen in the movies. We knew we couldn't go to the show without our signs, so we got to work. One sign had to be held by 7 people and it read: Elton Can You Feel The Love Tonight. The others read, Thank You For The Music, Rock It Man, and Play That Piano Boy. We also each had American and British flags to wave. These should get the TV cameras' attention. With our "gear", we made our way across the street to where we would be seeing Sir Elton in just a couple of hours. Again we met up with more friends and took lots of pictures. We drew a crowd when we pulled our signs out and took pictures. Our seats were ok...section 6. I couldn't complain because I was just happy being there. Everyone made it to the stage later in the show, but I stayed behind. I was not even supposed to go to the shows because of a back injury and so I was not even going to try to dodge security. In the long run, I was happy I stayed behind because I got to see someone I love standing just a few feet away from me. ENRIQUE IGLESIAS!! I just happened to look over to the side and there he was. I couldn't believe it. He was just standing to the side and I tried to get his attention, but it was too loud. I did get a nice snapshot of him! The show was AMAZING! I've never seen Elton so animated and sound so great. Again my favorite was hearing him sing Come Together. Also seeing him and Kiki Dee together was a big treat. The cameras seemed to be in our section the whole night. Everytime we waved our flags or held up our signs, they were right there. I must admit that section 6 was a bit of a bore. They sat almost the whole show and complained whenever anyone stood up and security went along with them. I couldn't believe it. I did get people in my row help me hold up the sign, Elton Can You Feel The Love Tonight. And as soon as we held it up, the cameras were right there...YAY! Elton did not change clothes so it was a surprise when the show ended. I didn't want it to end, wanted it to go on and on. But there is one more night to go. After the show we headed across the street to have dinner with some fellow fans. It was cool to hear the whole place sing along to Tiny Dancer. Laura was able to get a gift at the resturant for Elton (sneaky Laura). Unfortunately she was never able to hand it to him. Haha. I still want to know how you got it past the elevator guy. It was such an amazing night and I couldn't wait for the next. |

The next morning, we all woke up early and headed out for a walk. I did not know where we were heading, just followed the group and acted like a total tourist with my camcorder and camera. We must have stopped at every tourist gift shop to find some goodies for our families back home. And I've never seen so many camera shops on one block. I was so excited seeing all the sites and especially going into Time Square. We stopped to get something to eat and a much needed rest. I was seeing stars at this point from my back hurting, but I was having too much fun to stop. I wanted to see everything I could before going back home. While walking, we happened to come to The Palace Theater, where Aida was showing. We decided to go in and buy some souveniors and we made it just in time. The show had just begun and they had to close the doors, but they allowed us to do a little shopping. The gentleman working there told us Elton was there on Thursday to check out the show. On with our long walk. I still had no idea where we were going until we were infront of a hotel (shhh, can't tell you which one). Ahhh, now I know what we were doing. There was two other fans standing outside and we all stood there patiently. A car pulled up and out steps Richard Dryfuss with his son. I wouldn't have recognized him if it wasn't for Laura. He had a hat and glasses on and Laura knew from his voice and she heard Richard say his son's name, which Laura knew. A few minutes later Elton's mom stepped out of a car. She looked like the sweetest lady, though we did not approach her. I think we were all too surprised to see her to do anything. A few minutes had past and then all of a sudden Elton appeared. He walked down the steps in a very cool lime green suit with a black shirt. He past by us very quickly and said he was in too much of a rush to stop. BUMMER!! We were all kinda bummed. Better luck next time I guess. Surprisingly, we could not get a cab to stop so we had to walk all the way back to the hotel. Man were we tired! And we did not have a lot of time to rest. We got dressed and headed right over to the Garden. It seemed as soon as we got there, we were able to go to our seats...well, what were to be our seats for the night :0) All of the "Queens" were able to make it to the stage! I first got bumped to the back of the crowd at the stage and got, but then slowly made my way back to the front. What a show!! Tonight's show topped last night's. I was so excited to be able to see Mary J. Blige perform. I'm a big fan of hers ever since her first album and she sounds even better live. It was also nice to see cutie patootie, Ronan Keating, upclose. My favorite songs for the night were again Come Together and also Club At The End Of The Street. Our signs were a big hit again toinght. Again we had, Elton Can You Feel The Love Tonight and also Rock It Man. Elton actually had to pause to read the signs when he turned to us after finishing a song. He had the biggest grin on his face too. I was so sad when Elton sang the last song of the night. I did not want this perfect week to end. It was so amazing to be a part of Elton history. And not only that, but to be a part of it with some of my best friends and some new friends. I don't know if anything could top this week. I hope something could just so we can do it all over again. To top off the week, each of the "Queens" got a very special surprise...autograph picture from Elton himself. Guess he just loves his Queens :0) Well now that you've read my story, why not check out some more pictures. Hope you enjoy them! |
