ODDS AND ENDS

  • Act For Change—This site has an easy, albeit naturally imperfect, format to bring your opinions to specific leaders about a variety of current event issues. Those who are interested can (and probably should) edit the site's example letters to personalize exactly their thoughts on particular issues.
  • craigslist—an online community for metropolitan areas around the country; find jobs, housing, community organizations, and more.
  • disinformation—debunking some news myths; "i believe in so many things i know that none of them are true"—Toad the Wet Sprocket
  • ECO Tourism and Tourism Concern—With all due respect to the world, I believe one needs to be a responsible traveler wherever they go.
  • Free Stuff—For a comprehensive guide of products and services you can get free.
  • The Hunger Site—Donate food for free to help feed hungry people in the world; all it takes is one click of the mouse.
  • Iwon—A different kind of search engine with news, games, and even more ways to win free stuff.
  • KITE, Inc.—Keys to Information, Technology, and Education is a nonprofit organization co-founded by a friend of mine. KITE aims to bridge the global digital divide by offering free, customized computer packages and technical training to community groups in the 'Third World'.
  • National Geographic—the magazine that opened up the world to me.
  • The Onion—Just when you thought the news was getting too serious and depressing, The Onion's there to brighten up your day.
  • The Weather Channel—In Connecticut, one never knows whether the day will bring you sun, rain, snow, or a combination of all three. That's why I check here before I make any plans!
  • WebMd—When doctors were clueless about what was wrong with me, Web MD helped me to find my own answers and help the doctors along.
  • We've Got Your Game—Game shows online from Jeopardy to The Dating Game, card games and more. Test your skill against other players and earn a chance to win prizes.

EYE ON THE WORLD

I'm trying to become more and more informed about what's really going on in the world. The U.S. mainstream media just isn't cutting it for me, but these sites have been helping me somewhat make more sense of things. (If you have any other sites you recommend, let me know.)

PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Here are some cool Web sites of some of my friends around the world:
  • Adam Barnhart-He comes in and out of my life, but he's one of those interesting souls with lots to discuss, as you can witness on his site.
  • AndrewCurry.com A friend of mine who shares some advice on journalistic writing and shares some of his own writing.
  • Seraphiel's Abode A man with a lot to say about life and the world around us.
  • WednesdayWeb A little bit of everything from one of the more intriguing people I know.
