Sometimes, I'm watching a Fleetwood Mac video, or listening to an FM or Chris album, or I may be doing something totally unrelated to Christine, and for some reason I just start noticing things about her. Like, for example:
- Why is it that a lot of people refer to Christine as "the other woman from Fleetwood Mac"?? Like I said on the main page, I like Stevie Nicks also. But people talk about Stevie as if she were the "main woman" and Christine is just some unknown performer. Really, don't you think Stevie should be the "other woman," since Chris was there first? Or better yet, why don't we just forget that "other lady" talk and refer to them by their names -- Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie?
- I own -- and enjoy -- several Fleetwood Mac albums from the early 70s. While I have nothing against Bob Welch or any of the other members at the time, why is it that they put just three or four of Christine's tracks on each album. Here's an example: On Heroes Are Hard To Find, Christine has only four songs, while Bob Welch (the only other vocalist on that album) has seven. Is that a lopsided arrangement or what??
- Speaking of album tracks, here's a little positive observation. On Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits album, Christine has eight songs! Stevie Nicks has five, and Lindsey Buckingham has only three.
- I was watching (and taping) the VH1 100 Greatest Women countdown that was on recently. Most of the other artists on this countdown had people saying great things about them. But does anybody talk about Chris? No, of course not. All VH1 has on Chris is the narrator saying a few words, a couple of songclips, and Christine talking about her songwriting. The whole segment was a little over a minute and a half. (I timed it just out of curiosity.)
- However, with as much complaining as I just did on how VH1 treated Christine, I do have to say one thing: CHRIS MADE THE TOP 100!!!! WOO HOO!!! And she was #63 at that! There were thirty-seven other women below her!!!
- I've just listened to the album Time for about the millionth time (bad pun not intended LOL) and I just have one thing to say about it -- No Christine-related collection is complete without this album! Sure, you miss out on Lindsey's kick-butt guitar playing and Stevie's pretty songwriting, but the five songs Christine sang on this CD is well worth the $12-$15 at the music store. As a matter of fact, some of her best songs appear on Time -- "I Do," "Sooner or Later," and my personal favorite, "Nights In Estoril." So if you're a Christine fanatic, you can't go wrong buying Time.
- Speaking of Time, I had a chance to listen to some Time-era concerts recently (though she made the album, Chris didn't go with them on that tour), and I realized one thing -- Fleetwood Mac simply is not Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie. The Tango in the Night and Behind the Mask concerts were great without Lindsey Buckingham, and the Time album was good without Stevie Nicks, but you just cannot have a decent Fleetwood Mac concert without Christine. I don't know if it's her singing or her keyboard playing, or simply her presence, but she really does add something to a show.
- If you can find a copy of Christine's 1984 solo video called "Christine McVie - The Video Album", GET IT!!!!! It's well worth the $25-30 or so you might pay on Ebay.
- The same goes for her 1969 album, called "The Legendary Christine Perfect Album." It's hard to find on CD (unless you're willing to settle for a bootleg), but if you have a record player you can easily find a copy on Ebay. If you like good blues/pop music, you'll like this album. :-)
As with most of my pages, I'm not done here either. I'm always noticing something new with Fleetwood Mac and Christine McVie, and any observation I make will most likely wind up on this page.
