Comments: "Although my once insatiable interest in vaudeville is
something no one in my peer group could possibly ever share, it's kept me
as a constant presence entertaining in old age and retirement communities.
Unfortunately, tonight's Vaudeville/Cabaret Revoltaire show goes up against
a PBS documentary on Vaudeville that will kill my box office! Clap a bit
louder and maybe I won't notice the lack of old fans with cream of corn
complexions who usually attend these vaudeville extravaganzas o' mine. Actually
this show is hardly vaudeville (I refuse to work with jugglers, they're
unreliable) but it did provide a nice leit motif for my first CD Heathens
of vaudeville. In keeping with the theme, tonight's two cover songs Secret Love and Are You Lonesome
Tonight? actually date back to
that bygone era, the latter was a Jolson tune before Elvis got a hold of
it. Hope you enjoy it. Happy Thanksgiving and remember, I love each one
of you very much in a healthy well-adjusted sort of way..."
Noteworthy is the disappearance of "Maniac"
as a finale, with That's Your
Darling For You* firmly established
as a different, more bittersweet closer. This show was very well received
by a packed house of mostly strangers and marked the dominance of original
tunes on future shows. Much of the set was devoted to the Serene CD and
the doll heads he hung from the ceiling for his Sunday Trash & Vaudeville
shows make a brief return.
