Miscellaneous questionsWhat does the name of the site mean? The name 1959 And All That is stolen from the memorable history of England, 1066 And All That, by W.C. Sellar and R.J. Yeatman. What on earth is a run off groove?Ah, the innocence of youth! Run-off or run-out grooves are part of vinyl records; they move the turntable's arm from the end of the music to the middle of the record. At this point the arm will either lift up and return to its resting position, or, if your deck is expensive enough, do nothing. Matrix and catalogue numbers are stamped in spare space in this area of the disc; and sometimes the artist or an engineer will scratch a message on to the pressing master - it is these messages which are referred to in the song notes. |
