Who are M People?
Mike Pickering
Mike Pickering is a former member of the Factory band, Quando Quango. Mike has
also been a member of T-Coy. As a DJ at the club, Hacienda, in Manchester, he
teamed up Paul Heard and started M People.
Paul Heard
Paul Heard has played in groups like Orange Juice, Working Week, Trouble and Ace Of Clubs. He and
Mike Pickering started M People.
Heather Small
Heather Small, a singer in the band Hot!House, was discovered by Mike and Paul who needed a singer for the songs they had written. From the first single, Heather was a constant member of the band.
Shovell
Shovell, the clown of the band, used to play in a group called Natural Life. Shovell (previously spelled Shovel), didn't become a member until around the Elegant Slumming
era.

Why the name M People?
M People is said to stand for Mike's People. Even though Heather Small is the front figure with her beautiful voice, Mike seems to be the central person in the group.

Why aren't there any b-side on their singles?
There is a simple reason why there aren't any b-sides on M People's single releases. They never write more song than they need for an album. However, some may argue that songs other than the title track is a b-side. B-sides here means songs that are not available on any album.

What is the song "Set Them Free"?
"Set Them Free" is a song that M People performed live with the artist Sting. It was never officially released, and so far it hasn't showed up on any bootleg.
