JON CARIN info

Jon Carin (keyboards)

First appearance I have noted by him is in famous festival Live Aid, on July 13rd, 1985, where he plays in Bryan Ferry special band that day (most of them appear in Ferry's album Boys and Girls):

Bryan Ferry (vocals)
Neil Hubbard (guitar)
David Gilmour (guitar)
Chester Kamen (guitar)
Marcus Miller (bass)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Jimmy Maelen (percussion)
Andy Newmark (drums)
Michelle Cobbs (backing vocals)
Ednah Holt (backing vocals)
Fonzi Thornton (backing vocals)
On December 28th, 1991, it was held the Amnesty International 30th Anniversary Concert. David Gilmour was the musical director, and he got some of his friends and colleagues for the band. They backed Tom Jones and Spinal Tap. The lineup was: Most of them were known to David Gilmour (some were part of Pink Floyd live band; he had played with Jody Linscott in Deep End; and some others appear in Sam Brown solo albums, along with David).

On October 11th, 1992, there is another benefit event, at the Chelsea Arts Ball, with a stellar lineup, very close to Pink Floyd lineup:

Some guests appearing in the gig were Rick Wright & Nick Mason, plus Tom Jones, Hugh Cornwell (from The Stranglers), Mica Paris, Elvis Costello and others.

In 1994, he played with Roger Daltrey, as "A celebration: the music of Townsend & The Who", with this lineup:

Plus an orchestra arranged by Michael Kamen. They released an album, with guest stars: Pete Townsend, John Entwistle, David Sanborn, The Chieftains, etc.

Apart from playing with Pink Floyd, Jon Carin has played with The Who in 1996 along with Geoff Whitehorn, John 'Rabbit' Bundrick and David Gilmour.

In June 1996, The Who (credited as "Townsend, Entwistle, Daltrey present Quadrophenia") were to play a charity gig for the Quadrophenia celebration, but Pete Townsend gets injured, being unable to play electric guitar, so Roger Daltrey calls Geoff Whitehorn to play with them during June and July.

After the success, they plan to make a short US tour in July 1996, without David Gilmour, and including Billy Idol.

When they kept doing the tour, this time billed as The Who, Geoff and Phil Daniels weren't present in the lineup.

Some other changes around April 1997 were including veteran artist P.J. Proby instead of Gary Glitter, and the demise of Jody Linscott and the backup singer, getting Billy Nicholls the percussion duties.

In 1996 and 1997, Pete Townsend played a few solo concerts, with the only backing by Jon Carin on keyboards.

Pete Townsend live band at the beginning of 1997 was:

Pete Townsend (vocals, guitar)
Chucho Merchan (bass)
John 'Rabbit' Bundrick (keyboards)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Jody Linscott (percussion)
Zak Starkey (drums)
Billy Nicholls (backing vocals)
They toured until August 1997. After that, Jon joins Honky Tonk, a parallel band formed by Richard Fortus (ex-Pale Divine, from Love Spit Love).
Richard Fortus (guitar, from Love Spit Love)
Eric Schermerhorn (guitar, from Love Spit Love)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Frank Ferrer (drums)
They recorded an album called Meat the Honky (1998).

He also appeared as 'Pete Townsend and Friends' in August 1998, with a new lineup.

Pete Townsend (vocals, guitar)
Tracy Langram (guitar, vocals)
Peter Hope-Evans (harmonica)
Chucho Merchan (bass)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Jody Linscott (percussion)
In November 1998, Jody Linscott is not with the band:
Pete Townsend (vocals, guitar)
Tracy Langram (guitar, vocals)
Peter Hope-Evans (harmonica)
Chucho Merchan (bass)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
It was reported that Jon has written some songs with Richard Butler (from Love Spit Love, formerly in Psychedelic Furs) in 1998, but these songs haven't been released until now.

In 1999, Roger Waters assembles a new live band for touring during July and August:

Roger Waters (vocals, bass, guitar)
Andy Fairweather-Low (guitar)
Doyle Bramhall II (guitar)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Graham Broad (drums)
Katie Kissoon (backing vocals)
The band is increased for the 2000 tour (June & July):
Roger Waters (vocals, bass, guitar)
Snowy White (guitar)
Andy Fairweather-Low (guitar)
Doyle Bramhall II (guitar)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Andy Wallace (keyboards)
Graham Broad (drums)
Katie Kissoon (backing vocals)
Susannah Melvoin (backing vocals)
The band includes an additional vocalist, the veteran PP Arnold, in order to record a live album:
Roger Waters (vocals, bass, guitar)
Snowy White (guitar)
Andy Fairweather-Low (guitar)
Doyle Bramhall II (guitar)
Jon Carin (keyboards)
Andy Wallace (keyboards)
Graham Broad (drums)
Katie Kissoon (backing vocals)
PP Arnold (backing vocals)
Susannah Melvoin (backing vocals)
The live album is a 2CD called In the flesh, and it was also released as a video.
