City to city is a superb album, and it contains Gerry's most famous song, 'Baker Street'. A superb list of musicians (as always). Micky Moody (guitar), Hugh Burns (guitar), Andy Fairweather-Low (guitar), Jerry Donahue (guitar), Nigel Jenkins (guitar), B.J. Cole (steel guitar; well, he's credited as Brian Cole, but I think it's B.J.!), Gary Taylor (bass), Tommy Eyre (keyboards), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax), Paul Jones (harmonica), Graham Preskett (violin), Henry Spinetti (drums), Glen LeFleur (drums). And on backing vocals: Barbara Dickson, Rab Noakes and Joanna Carlin.

Pete Willsher Pete Willsher is a skilled steel guitarist. He is mentioned in my pages about Miller Anderson (they played together in the band Hemlock). In this album, he's backed by: Tony Kelly (vocals, guitar), Mandi Wilson (vocals), Stuart Cowell (guitar), Rob Hendry (guitar), Graham Wayne (bass), Keith Miller (keyboards), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Luce Langridge (drums), Tristan Fry (percussion, later in Sky), Bob Loveday (violin), Keith Nelson (banjo).

Tim Rose This album was recorded with: Andy Summers (guitar, from The Police), B.J. Cole (pedal steel guitar), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Pierre Tubbs (bass, guitar, vocals, keyboards), Michael D'Alburquerque (bass), Lynton Naiff (keyboards), Philip Love (percussion), Theodore Thunder (drums), and backing vocals by Lisa Strike, Jacqui Sullivan and Vicki Brown.

Peter French Superb singer, he'll someday have his own pages in my Olympus. In this album, we can find the cream of British musicians: Micky Moody (guitar), Brian Robertson (guitar), Dave Markee (bass), Tim Hinkley (keyboards), Pete Wingfield (keyboards), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Henry Spinetti (drums), Kenny Jones (drums). What a coincidence... all these musicians are going to be covered in my site. :)

Bliss Band
Project commanded by Paul Bliss, a former member of Dog Soldier (with Keef Hartley and Miller Anderson). With: Phil Palmer (guitar), Andy Bown (bass, vocals), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Alan Park (keyboards), Geoff Westley (keyboards, flute), Nigel Elliott (drums), Frank Ricotti (percussion). 
Andrew Matheson
He was the singer in a band called Hollywood Brats. In this album, we can find Nigel Jenkins (guitar), Andy Pask (bass), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax), the mythical Howie Casey (sax), Tommy Eyre (keyboards), Pete Kircher (drums, later in Status Quo). 
Dennis O'Brien I don't know who he is. Vocalist and keyboardist, he's backed here by: Ray Russell (guitar), Jim Gannon (guitar), Phil Palmer (guitar), John Turnbull (guitar), Pete Willsher (steel guitar), Gary Taylor (bass), Tommy Eyre (keyboards), Pete Solley (keyboards), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax), Richard Burgess (drums), Dave Mattacks (drums) Micky Waller (drums), and vocals by Aliki Holland, Viv McAuliffe, Jane Kennaway, Simon Morris.


Ian Gomm He was a member of great band Brinsley Schwarz from 1970 to 1975. He has released several solo albums. On this one, he's backed by Ray Taff Williams (guitar), B.J. Cole (pedal steel guitar), Herbie Flowers (bass), Rod Demick (bass, from Meal Ticket with Steve Simpson), Nick Glennie-Smith (keyboards), Malcolm Morley (keyboards), Chris Parren (keyboards), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Alan Coulter (drums), Barry De Souza (drums).

Kim Carnes This beautiful singer hit the lists with the song 'Bette Davis' eyes'. We can always find great musicians in her albums, mostly American: John Beland (guitar, mandolin, from Flying Burrito Brothers later lineups), David Hungate (bass, from Toto), Eric Nelson (bass), Bill Cuomo (keyboards), Mike Thompson (keyboards), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Joel Peskin (sax), Craig Krampf (drums), Darlene Love (vocals), Herb Pedersen (vocals), Julia Tillman (vocals), Maxine Willard (vocals), Edna Wright (vocals). 

Chris Rea <Remember to get the album cover from magazine #13>

This album features Chris Rea's usual band of musicians: Robert Ahwai (guitar), Max Middleton (keyboards), Kevin Leach (keyboards), Eoghan O'Neill (bass), Martin Ditcham (drums, percussion). Also appearing: Dave Burton (guitar), Mick Hutchinson (bass), Bruce Lynch (bass), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Geoff Driscoll (sax), Lee Thornburg (trumpet), Pete Wingfield (keyboards), Graham Watson (keyboards), Dave Mattacks (drums), Norman Nosebait (drums), and a very good vocal section: Jimmy Chambers, George Chandler, 



The Alvin Lee Band This was the lineup for The Alvin Lee Band: The style of the album is quite different of what you can except from Alvin Lee. The album has great guests: Al Kooper (keyboards), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax on two songs: 'Heartache' and 'Ridin' truckin''), Peter Thoms (trombone), Derek Austin (keyboards).

This album features Robert Ahwai (guitar), Garth Watt Roy (guitar), Steve Lipson (guitar), Gary Taylor (guitar), Felix Krish (bass), Kevin Dunn (bass), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Betsy Cook (keyboards), Mike McNaught (keyboards), Liam Genockey (drums), Jeff Allen (drums). 



Marvin Gaye This legendary singer recorded many great albums. In this one, we can find: Robert Ahwai (guitar), Gordon Banks (guitar), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Nigel Martinez (drums), among others. 

Brand X A superb band, with fantastic musicians. This was an album including tracks not appearing in previous albums. The list of band members is: The album included Raf Ravenscroft guesting on sax, plus Steven Short (syndrums).


Abba

Abba recorded several versions of the song 'Just like that' in 1982. One of them featured Raf Ravenscroft on a sax solo. But the song was never released. But many years later,some parts of the song have appeared in the Thank you for the music ABBA boxset. 


Robert Plant

The lead singer in Led Zeppelin started his solo career under his own name with this album. His band was: Robbie Blunt (guitar, from Silverhead), Paul Martinez (bass), Jezz Woodroffe (keyboards, from Black Sabbath). As he hadn't a stable drummer, he used two of them for the album: Cozy Powell and Phil Collins. Also guesting here in 1 song, Raf Ravenscroft (sax). 



Pink Floyd

This was the last album by the band before splitting. They had just lost one of the members, keyboardist Rick Wright:

They used great musicians for these sessions: Michael Kamen (keyboards), Andy Bown (keyboards), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Ray Cooper (percussion).


America The famous trio turned into a duo (Gerry Beckley & Dewey Bunnell) in the early 80s. This album, produced by Russ Ballard, who also plays most instruments, features contributions by Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Stephen Bishop (backing vocals on one song). The album includes the beautiful song 'The border'. The album gives thanks to the usual America backing band, although I don't know why they didn't play in the album, as they are great musicians (Willie Leacox, Brad Palmer and the fantastic lead guitarist Michael Woods). 

Roger Waters

The first solo album by Roger Waters after Pink Floyd split. A superb album! With fantastic names: Eric Clapton (guitar), Andy Bown (keyboards), Michael Kamen (keyboards), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), David Sanborn (sax), Kevin Flanagan (sax), Vic Sullivan (sax), Ray Cooper (percussion), Andy Newmark (drums), and backing vocals by a spectacular trio: Katie Kissoon, Doreen Chanter and Madeline Bell.



Eddie Hardin

This was a project conceived by the great Eddie Hardin, since 1976. Wind in the willows is based on a musical translation of a novel, Eddie Hardin and Zak Starkey started working on it in 1985. With a great list of musicians: Ray Fenwick (guitar), Steve Hackett (guitar), Chris Thompson (guitar, vocals), John Entwistle (bass), Mike O'Donnell (bass), Steve Richardson (bass), Tony Ashton (keyboards, vocals), Don Airey (keyboards), Jon Lord (keyboards), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax), John 'Bimbo' Acock (sax), Pete York (drums), and vocals by: Maggie Bell, Graham Bonnet, Tony Barton, Donovan, Joe Fagin and Val McKenna.

In 1991, there was a live performance at the Zeitfestival Freiburg in Germany, and seven years later, it was released as Wind in the willows - a rock concert. The great lineup is very similar to the studio version: Ray Fenwick (guitar), Tony Ashton (keyboards, vocals), Don Airey (keyboards), Jon Lord (keyboards), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax), Pete York (drums), and vocals by: Maggie Bell, Graham Bonnet, Donovan, Joe Fagin. This CD release also includes two studio bonus tracks from the original sessions, featuring Denny Laine (song 'The life we left behind') and Billy Ocean. 



Mike Oldfield Raf has played in at least two albums by Mike Oldfield.

Islands features Max Bacon (vocals), Bonnie Tyler (vocals), Kevin Ayers (vocals), Rick Fenn (guitar), Micky Moody (guitar), Phil Spalding (bass), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Andy Mackay (sax), Tony Beard (keyboards), Mickey Simmonds (keyboards), Simon Phillips (drums), Pierre Moerlen (percussion), Benoit Moerlen (percussion). The CD edition has one more track, 'When the night's on fire'.

Earth moving features Adrian Belew (guitar, from King Crimson), Phil Spalding (bass), Raf Ravenscroft (sax), Roddy Lorimer (horns), Simon Clarke (horns), plus vocals by Maggie Reilly, Maggie Ryder, Carl Wayne, Lance Ellington, Keith Murrell, Chris Thompson, Mark Williamson, Carol Kenyon, Max Bacon.


COLLECTIVE ALBUMS AND SOUNDTRACKS



VV.AA. / The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Friends Along the years, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has been recording some albums with rock and pop covers; usually with famous guest musicians. This one is devoted to The Police, and we can find here: the complete Gary Moore Band lineup (Gary Moore, Neil Murray, Don Airey, Ian Paice), plus Chris Thompson (vocals), Graham Bonnet (vocals), Roy Wood (vocals), Keith Airey (guitar), Robin LeMesurier (guitar), Chaz Jankel (keyboards), John McKenzie (bass), Raphael Ravenscroft (sax), Richard Bailey (drums). The CD edition was re-named Classic Police (1993, Icon).
