Chapter 8

I ran through the path I had memorized by now, the path leading to where Brian lived... When I finally reached the clearing I ran to his door, then stopped. I pushed it open, and I could it hear its creak echoing through my ears. I walked in, looking around, but I could see nothing. I kept on walking, and I called out a silent, "Brian?" There was no reply. I could feel my heart beating faster, and this time I said it louder, "Brian!"

To my right, I heard a slight cough, and I turned around immedietly, noticing that it had come from a door down the long hallway.

I ran to it and burst in, and what my eyes saw made me go limp. Brian was lying on the cold, damp floor, holding on to the bed beside him to stand up, and he didn't look all that good...

Running to hold his hand, I said through tears, "Brian, what happened?"

He was breathing heavily, and was sweating all over. He was in basically no condition to reply to me, but I didn't want to let that sink in, I wanted him to get better so bad that I believed he was ok...

"Please answer me..." I said through tears. He looked up at me then, and his face looked so pale it scared me. He lifted one of his hands slowly, bringing it to my cheek.

"I'm so sorry... I didn't mean for it to happen so soon..." he said slowly, his own eyes filling up.

"No, don't be sorry because you're not going to die! You're not, brian, you're not..." I cried, yet deep down inside, this knot in my stomach told me I was wrong, and that the only person I had ever really loved was going to leave me...

I hugged him, crying on his shoulders. "It's not fair," I whispered. "I just met you, why do I have to lose you now? Why couldn't we have met a long time ago..."

His only response was a reply to the one and only three important words I ever uttered to him. "I love you, Tamy..." We stayed like that for a while, and I don't even know how long it was, now that I look back. But it felt like a short time to me, for soon, his heavy breathing turned to very light breathing... until I didn't hear him at all. My body frozen, I pulled back from him, and he fell on my lap. I turned his face around, but gone were those enchanting blue eyes, gone was my Brian, gone was the person who I had ever truly loved... forever...
