At the cafe, Brian and Karen ate their breakfast in silence. Both not wanting to bring up the night before. Brian decided to break the silence. "So, what kind of clothes are you into? Maybe that will give us a idea of what shops to go to."
"Hmm..I honestly don't know." she said. "I wear anything that makes me comfortable."
"Let's make this afternoon interesting. Let me pick out your clothes."
"No way, why would I let a guy pick out my clothes? They have no taste." she laughed.
"Excuse me. Kevin picked out that lovely dress for you, didn't he?"
"Yeah, he fluked out."
"No seriously, you try on the clothes I pick and I'll tell you what I think." Brian suggested.
"I don't know." Karen said unsure.
"Come on, it'll be fun. Let's see if I have good taste or not." he said. "Plus, I am paying..so.."
"That's true." she remembered. "Okay, fine, but I have to feel comfortable in them."
"Okay, deal."
They looked at each other and laughed. They were finished their breakfast, "Okay, let's go," Brian said as he paid the bill.
The two walked down Main Street walking into every and any clothing store that looked like they had decent clothes. A couple hours had past and they already put piles and piles of bags into the car and they had bagfuls of clothing in their hands. They walked into the Gap. "The clothes here are expensive." Karen told Brian. "I can't possibly buy anything from here."
"Don't worry about it, I'm paying so don't fret."
"But --"
"Don't worry." Brian said as he was looking at clothing. "Hmm..what about this?"
Karen looked at what he had chosen, it was a pair of blue capri pants. "Not bad, I'll try them on. But let's keep looking around first."
"What about these?" Brian held up a super short miniskirt.
"No way!" Karen said.
"Why not? They're cute." Brian said laughing.
"No thanks, I wouldn't be comfortable wearing it."
"Okay, what about these?" he held up another skirt but it wasn't as short.
"Okay," Karen said.
"Tops, you need tops." Brian said.
"Man, you're more into this than me."
"Ha ha!" Brian said sarcastically. "Hey this is nice." He had found a blue button down shirt with 3/4 length sleeves.
Karen grabbed it and put it in the arm with the other clothing that she was going to try on. "I realized you like the color blue. Everything I'm holding so far is blue."
"That's my favourite color."
"Don't you think I should get more than just one color?"
"Okay..how about this white sweater? It'd look good with the skirt."
"Okay, now I'm going to try them on. Are you going to wait out here?"
"Yeah."
Karen disappeared into the dressing room to try on her things. She first put on the capri pants with the blue button down shirt and came out to show Brian. "Hey I'm good!" he said cocky. "It looks awesome on you."
"Yeah I kind of like it!" Karen agreed.
"Okay, go try on the skirt and sweater." Brian said happy with his choices.
Karen went and changed into the other outfit. She came out to show Brian. "Wow, this looks even better!!!" Brian exclaimed.
"I don't know."
"We have to get it."
"I don't really like it." Karen said.
"Well, too bad." he looked at the salesperson next to him.
"We'll take all four." She heard him say as she was changing back into her shorts and T-shirt.
"Brian, it's too much. You already bought me tonnes of stuff, enough to last me half a year," she said sarcastically. "I can wear like a different outfit each day."
"Too late," he said as he was paying for it
"You suck, Brian!"
"I know." he said grinning from ear to ear. "Now let's go put some of these bags in the car, and go shop some more."
"Wait, we need to get something." Karen said slowly.
"What?"
"Undergarments." Karen said shyly.
"Oh?" Brian said uncomfortably. "What about this? I'll go put the bags in the car and I'll give you my credit card and you can go by them." He said as he handed her his card.
"You trust me with this?" she said surprised.
"Yeah, just don't go overboard."
She went to buy her undergarments, as Brian headed to the car. Brian was walking back from his car, 'I'm having such a great time, and I am safe to say that, Karen is too. I'm glad she's smiling and laughing.'
The two met up and Karen handed back his credit card. "Brian, thanks for everything. I have enough clothes too last me a long time. But now you have to buy yourself something."
"Nah, it's okay." blushed Brian.
"Come on, I can't let you buy me all this stuff with your money and you never bought anything for yourself, I'll feel guilty." Karen said with puppy dog eyes.
'Aww... she's so cute, how can I resist that face?' Brian thought. "Okay fine. Since you let me pick your clothes, and can I add I have great taste, you can pick anything out for me."
"Yes, you have good taste. But not GREAT taste," Karen laughed.
"Come here, I'm going to kill you." Brian said jokingly as he lunged forward to grab Karen. She jumped out of the way and he stood face to face with Aaron and Dawn. "Oh, hi guys," he looked down at the linked hands. "So what's going on?" he asked slyly. "Aaron's the man!!" he started jumping up and down. "Aaron's the man," he kept saying. Karen just stood there and laughed at him.
"Okay, Brian, we get the idea." Aaron said. "What are you on?"
"Nothing, just shopping here with my dear friend Karen. What are you doing here?"
"Spending time with Dawn."
"OH I SEE..." Brian nudged Aaron. "Where's Nick?"
"Last time I checked, he was sleeping." Aaron said.
"Oh, how is he?" he whispered.
"I don't know, he wouldn't talk to me about it."
"I'll give him a call later, but we gotta run so I'll check ya later."
"Those two weren't majorly flirting!" Dawn said sarcastically.
"Yeah, they looked like they were having A LOT of fun." Aaron admitted.
"Enough fun to be interested in each other." Dawn hoped.
"Don't count on it," Aaron said. "I don't want to burst your bubble but if Brian knows that Nick likes Karen, he'll never go for her, he'd never hurt him like that. Their best friends."
"Brian seems too good to be true." Dawn said.
"Yeah, but it's true, Brian is the best friend a person could ever have." Aaron said. "If Nick has a girlfriend, Brian will treat her like his sister and vice versa. They're cool like that."
"Hey, if we can get Brian and Karen together, then Theresa can have Nick."
"Dawn, you aren't listening. I'm pretty sure, Brian knows that Nick likes Karen and he'd never do that." Aaron tried to explain, "Plus he has a girlfriend remember? Those two love each other so much nothing can tear those two apart. It won't work. Trust me on it."
"It was worth a thought, I guess." Dawn said. "But...never mind." she mumbled. 'Man, I really want to help.'
Meanwhile, Brian and Karen were chasing each other down Main Street laughing. "Karen, stop, we have to finish our shopping," Brian said in a serious voice as he was walking towards her.
"Yeah, okay, let's finish our shopping." Karen agreed. "Let's go."
Brian grinned. "Not until I get you back." He grabbed Karen around the waist just as she turned around. They both hit their heads. "Ouch," Brian said. "That wasn't my plan at all." he laughed. He was still holding Karen who was rubbing her head. They both continued to laugh in the middle of the sidewalk, people starring at them. "We better move, people keep looking at us." Brian looked into Karen's eyes, 'Wow, I feel like I can see right into her soul.' For a moment, they just stood there looking into each other's eyes.
'Brian's been so nice to me. I have to find a way to repay him.' she thought. She looked into his eyes. 'He has the nicest blue eyes I've ever seenm it's so crystal clear.'
"Well, let's go then," Brian said breaking the moment they had.
"Yeah..."
The two continued to walk until the spotted a Tommy Hilfiger store. "Hey, let's go in here." Brian suggested. "I love this store," he said.
"Well, then, YOU have to get something from here. But I get to pick remember."
"Yeah, I remember."
Karen walked around the store as Brian followed her. 'Hey, isn't that Leigh Anne?' he asked himself. 'Who's that guy she's with?'
"Hey, Brian, what about this?" Karen said as she held up a blue sweater. No response. "Brian?" she asked again. Still no response. She turned around to see Brian looking at something. She followed his gaze. 'Hey, it's his girlfriend. Why isn't he going to talk to her?' she looked at Brian. "Hey, Brian. Earth to Brian."
Brian quickly turned around. "Oh, hey!" he looked down at the sweater, "That's nice and it's blue too, you're learning."
"Brian, why aren't you going to talk to your girlfriend? She's right over there. And who's that guy she's with?" Karen asked curiously.
"Karen? Let's go, please?"
"But your girl --"
Brian grabbed Karen and ran out of the store.
"What was that all about?" Karen asked. "Why didn't you go talk to Leigh Anne?"
"Karen? We need to talk, I didn't want to bring this up today because I didn't want it to ruin our day. You've been through so much already and I didn't want you worrying about me."
"What? What is it?"
"I went over to Leigh Anne's house this morning to talk about last night and she..." a tear began to roll down Brian's face. "She broke up with me."
Karen was shocked. "But..but why?"
"She didn't tell me why." he said "She kind of just left me hanging."
"I don't understand."
Just then, Leigh Anne and this guy walked out of the store, 'Oh no!' Brian thought. As he went to hide behind Karen. He didn't want to look at her. He tried to stay out of sight until they disappeared.
Karen stood there as still as she could trying to hide Brian. Karen starred at Leigh Anne and this guy as they walked away. To Karen's surprise they didn't see them. Karen watched them as they walked away. Then she saw them link their hands together. They were walking hand in hand. They stopped a couple of stores down and they began to kiss right in the middle of the sidewalk. 'Oh no, should I tell Brian? Yeah, I should.' She grabbed Brian from behind. "I know why she broke up with you."
"What? How?"
Karen pointed at something and Brian followed her finger. There was Leigh Anne making out with another guy. Brian's mouth dropped. He looked at Karen and then at Leigh Anne, the anger he was holding in was boiling up in his mind. Not thinking it through, Brian stormed towards Leigh Anne.
"Brian? Where are you going?" Karen asked. Realizing what he was about to do Karen followed him. "Brian this isn't a good idea, we're in public." He kept walking, he didn't listen to a word she said.
Brian walked up to the couple making out. "Well, well, how nice?" Brian interrupted their kiss and Leigh Anne looked at him with a horrified face. Brian continued on, "So is this the reason why you broke up with me?!" he asked angrily.
"Brian let me ex --"
"No, you had a chance to explain, but no, you had to wait until I found out...LIKE THIS!!"
Brian please calm down." Karen interrupted.
He ignored her. "Who the hell do you think you are?" he asked the guy. When he finally got a good look of the guy he turned away immediately. It was Jordan Knight of the once known New Kids On The Block. "You cheat on me, and you cheat on me with HIM!!!"
"Leigh Anne, let's go!" said Jordan. Leigh Anne had started crying now.
"Brian, I didn't want to hurt you."
"Hurt me? Bleh, you make me disgusting Leigh Anne. So all these times you weren't home, you were with this worthless bastard. And you have the NERVE to blame me for not calling and visiting. And you blamed me for cheating on you when I didn't even cheat on you. Your such a hypocrite, here you are, another man in your arms...God, Leigh Anne, I thought I loved you, but you know what I was wrong about you," he kept rambling on. "How long has this been going on?" he asked her.
"For..for 4 months..." she said with a trembling voice.
Brian's mouth dropped. "I was on tour and you went behind my back fooling around with him!" he yelled, "Leigh Anne I don't want to ever see you in my face ever again." and he turned to Jordan, "And you... I thought you were my friend. You better stay out of my face too." he warned.
"Brian, let's go!" Karen said. "I think you've said enough." She grabbed Brian and pulled him away leaving Leigh Anne crying crazily in Jordan's arms. "Brian, please calm down, what was that all about?" she asked. 'I've never seen him act like that before.' she realized. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, fine!" he said angrily.
"Please don't be mad with me, I.."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean too..." he said, "I just ruined our day, didn't I?"
"No, you didn't. Today was awesome, I had so much fun. Brian, don't worry about it. You know what? I think we should go somewhere and rest our feet, relax from all this excitement...and anger!" she joked.
"Yeah, and I know just the place." Brian smiled. "Let's go." He grabbed her hand and led her to the jeep.
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise."
"Come on, tell me."
"No, it's a surprise."
