"Hi, I'm Theresa." she said. "Umm..your stepping on my towel."
"Oh I'm sorry." he said moving his foot. Theresa climbed out of the pool and into the hot tub. "So who are you staying in the hotel with?" he asked her.
"My family and a friend."
"Oh, are you on vacation?"
"Yeah," Theresa said.
"What are you doing today?" he asked her.
"Nothing, I'm just staying in and relaxing."
"Would you mind if I take you out to dinner tonight?"
'He's asking me out? But..I don't even know him.' she thought. "ME?" she asked. "You're asking me to go out for dinner with you?"
"I don't see anyone else here do I?"
"I don't even know you."
"Well, that's why I asked you to go out to dinner with me."
"Oh," Theresa said, "Umm..why don't you give me time and I'll tell you in a bit?"
"Well, here's my room number. Call me alright."
"Okay." Theresa got out of the pool and walked back to her room. 'A cute boy just asked me out.' she was excited until 'But I like Nick, I can't go out with this boy. I'll feel guilty.' She frowned. 'Hey, Nick and I aren't dating or anything, maybe this guy is what I need. Plus Nick likes Karen so I won't have a chance now.' She went into her room and changed out of her wet bathing suit. She sat down on her bed and thought things over. She had come to a conclusion and picked up the phone to call Travis. "Hey Travis, yeah I'll come to dinner with you.....at 7? Sure, I'll meet you in the lobby, then." She put down the phone and started to get ready. She had a date.
Meanwhile, Nick was watching movies with Kevin and Howie, and he was bored out of his mind. They were watching the old movies from the 70s. 'God, how can they watch this garbage? When is Karen and Brian going to come home? I'm not going to leave until I talk to her.' he said. 'I'm kind of tired.' he looked at Kevin. "Hey, I'm going to take one of your extra rooms and take a nap, I didn't get much sleep last night. Which room is free?"
"Alright, the one next to Howie's is free."
Nick walked up the stairs and headed into the room. Just as he was about to fall asleep, there was a knock on his door. "Come in." he said.
It was Kevin. "Nick? Can I talk to you?"
"Sure. What's on your mind?" he asked.
"It's about Brian."
"Brian?"
"Yeah, do you know what's been going on with him lately? He seems to be bothered by something."
'Uh oh, I can't tell him. Brian told me not to say anything.' Nick thought. "I don't know, Kevin." he lied.
"Come on Nick. Don't lie to me, you and Brian talk everyday. Don't tell me he hasn't told you ANYTHING." Kevin said.
"Kevin, all I can say is whatever it is, you have to ask him because whether he told me or not, I can't say a word." Nick explained. "Now can I get some sleep."
"Yeah I'll see you later."
Nick crawled under the covers. He fell fast asleep. He was so tired. His mind has been swamped with thoughts of Karen all day that he couldn't bare to be awake any longer. It was hurting him what he had done to her, she was helpless and he took advantage of her. She was only there to talk, and he kissed her. Nick just slept and slept.
Down on Main Street, Dawn and Aaron were sitting at a bench. "Damn, my feet hurt." Dawn said.
"Yeah, so do mine." Aaron said. "Hmm..if you rub my feet I'll rub yours?" he laughed.
"Eww.. after a whole day of walking? All that sweat. No thanks." she said. "Let's go sit in the park across the street and rest our feet before we have to go home."
"Sounds like a good idea. Let's go."
They walked down to the park and sat down under a shady tree. Dawn leaned onto Aaron, who was leaning on to the trunk of the tree. "Aaron, it feels good to be in your arms."
"And it feels good to have you there." he said.
Dawn looked up at him and they kissed passionately under the warm sun. "Aaron? I'm worried about Theresa. When I left her this morning --"
"Don't worry about it," Aaron said. "She needs time alone and you gave it to her, now your here with me."
"Yeah, I wouldn't be with anyone else, except you!!" Dawn smiled.
Meanwhile, "Close your eyes," said Brian.
"Why?" Karen asked.
"Close your eyes, please?" Brian begged.
"Okay."
Brian grabbed Karen's hand and led her to a shady area surrounded by trees with just a small opening that looks out into the ocean. He sat her down, "Now open!"
"Where are we? It's beautiful." Karen said in amazement. "The view is beautiful from here...Brian? Where are we?"
"It's a secret. I always come here when I need time to calm down or think things over. I figured with all the things that you've been through that I should share my secret place with you. Only Leigh Anne and Nick have been here. Now you." he explained.
"Wow, aren't I special?" Karen joked.
"You are a VERY special person, you're my special friend. I trust you enough to share this with you, but remember it's a secret."
"I know that silly." Karen laughed. 'This must have been a special place for him and Leigh Anne.' she looked at him as he took a deep breathe of the fresh air surrounding him.
"Wow, I just love that scent of nature." Brian said calmly.
"Yeah, it's really... fresh!" Karen said instead, not knowing what to say.
Brian looked at her and started laughing. "Fresh?! Is that all you can say?"
"Shut up! I can't explain it, it's very --"
"I know what you mean." Brian chuckled.
The two sat there in silence for about five minutes taking in their surroundings, admiring the view and just enjoying each others company.
"Brian?" Karen broke the silence.
"Yeah."
"I had a great time today, I've never laughed so much in my life."
"I had a great time too. I'm just sorry about that whole blow up earlier." Brian apologized.
"Don't worry about it, this made up for it." she smiled.
'Something about her that makes her perfect.' Brian thought to himself. 'She understands me, she knows how I feel. I get this weird feeling around her and I don't think it's love because this is a total different feeling from how I felt about Leigh Anne, but was that love?' Brian asked himself.
Karen looked at the silent Brian, he was in very deep thought. She didn't want to interrupt his thoughts, 'He must be thinking about Leigh Anne. How could she do that to him?' She decided to ask him, "Brian? Are you thinking about Leigh Anne?"
He looked at her, "Yeah, how'd you know?"
"I can tell in your eyes."
"My eyes?" Brian asked, 'It's weird, it's like she can read my mind or something, it's creepy, it's like she sense my feelings without me telling her.'
"Karen?"
"Yeah," she said.
"What would you say if I said 'Let's go swimming in the ocean.'?" he said.
"Right now?" she questioned.
"Yeah," he said getting up.
"But we don't have the proper clothes."
"Who cares, your wearing my clothes...." he said grinning slyly.
She saw the look on his face and she said worried. "Why what do you have in mind?"
Without a word, Brian picked Karen up and threw her into the ocean. "BRIAN!!!" she yelled, "You're dead!" She climbed out of the water and grabbed Brian around the waist. "Now you're going in."
"I don't think so," as he grabbed her and threw her back in. He stood there pointing and laughing.
Karen stayed in the water looking at him hurt. Brian felt bad. "I'll help you out," he said reaching for a hand. Karen looked him in the face and reached out to grab his hand. As Brian was about to pull her out, she yanked him into the water. Brian flew and made a big splash. Brian came out from underwater and there she was the evil girl who pulled him into the water, laughing at him. "That's it!" He went over and dunked her head underwater. He wouldn't let her come up. To get him back, Karen went and grabbed his legs, making him wipe out and losing his grip on Karen, now he was underwater and Karen not letting him up. He went for her legs as well and lifted her up and over him. "Now what are you going to do huh?" he challenged.
Karen started to tickle Brian's waist and he dropped her back into the water as he was very ticklish. (AN: Aren't they all ticklish?) "I found your weakness." she grinned.
"That wasn't funny, no one's suppose to know my weakness, only my CLOSE friends are," he exaggerated.
"And I'm not your CLOSE friend?" Karen teased.
"No," he joked, "You're my bud, I love you like a sister."
"A sister?" she said quietly.
"I was kidding," he said as he saw the look on her face. "Of course, your one of my close friends." Then he splashed water into her face.
They continued to splash water at each other until Karen decided to climb out. Brian grabbed her waist and wouldn't let her get out. "No way, you're staying in here with me for a little bit longer." he said.
"But.."
"No buts..." he paused as she turned around and they were starring face to face with each other at the same eye level. Brian looked at the girl in front of him, he couldn't take his eyes off hers as they just stood there like time was frozen at that moment. The water waves slowly pushed them closer and closer together.
Karen starred into these crystal blue eyes, not knowing what to do, but she felt the water push her towards him. All of a sudden, 'What am I doing? Brian just broke up with his girlfriend. I'm not ready for this right now...' she looked at him again. 'But I.. I can't resist him...' she continued to star him in the eyes. 'No, I can't...' she turned around and she quickly climbed out of the water leaving Brian standing there dazed out.
'Man, I felt like I was looking right into her soul,' Brian said confused. 'She.. maybe she's the one...' he thought. 'No what am I doing, I just broke up with my girlfriend.. and Nick? He likes her I can't do this to him.' Brian climbed out of the water.
"What are we going to do now? We're all wet, we can't sit in your car like this."
"Let's dry off first." He laid down under the shade.
"Brian, we're in the shade, we'll never dry out here." Karen laughed.
"Oh yeah." he said scratching his head.
"Wait, I have new clothes, I'll go change into that and I'll hang my stuff on the rocks."
"Hmm..yeah you go do that," he threw her the keys.
Karen grabbed the keys. "I'll be right back." and she ran off.
As she got to the car, she opened the door and grabbed another pair of shorts and a tank top. She went into the trees and changed. She locked the car door and brought her wet clothes back to where Brian was. As she walked back, she saw Brian had fallen asleep with only his shorts on. He had taken his shirt off to let it dry. She looked at his bare chest, 'I wonder what that scar's from.' she thought. 'He's pretty built. I think I'll let him sleep for a bit, it's been a busy day.' She continued to sit there thinking of the day she just had. She's never laughed so much or had so much fun before, or at least from what she can remember. Ever since her parents divorce, everything had been gloomy. A tear rolled down her cheek at the thought of it. She grew very tired and laid down. In a couple of seconds she had fallen asleep.
