Perryman, 1983 (mono), 1992 (stereo). Recorded: 07-04-64 |

Frank Farley (drums) - Vic Cooper (keyboards) |
A
playful little number this, sounding a little different to much of the
material surrounding it thanks to Vic Cooper's use of a piano. The
twin-track stereo version used since the early 1990's is a complete
flawless take, quite possibly the preferred master destined for the
cancelled 1964 LP. The mono track originally issued on the
"Rarities" LP is a completely different take, with a timing error, as
indicated by the short piece of studio chat between the lads tacked on
to the beginning. It was not an unusual practise in the early
1960's for different takes to be used for mono and stereo masters, which
could lead to differences in performance - witness the Beatles' "Please
Please Me". |

You got the right string baby but the
wrong yo-yo
Somebody's knockin' on your door
I passed this morning by the hardware store
Bought a brand new string for my yo-yo
Walked down the doctors' get the string put on
He made mistake, put the string on wrong
No need for knockin' on nobody's door
Bought the right string baby for the wrong yo-yo
(instrumental break 1 - guitar)
Mama told me and Papa did too
Some of these women are going to be the death of you
Better find out wait till you crave
Some of these women'll take you to our grave
When you see me coming put your man outdoors
I ain't no stranger, I've been here before
No need for knockin' on nobody's door
I got the right string baby but the wrong yo-yo
(instrumental break 2 - piano)
