The ride took about 5 minutes. On the way to the hospital, Diana and August caught up a bit.
"So, have you had fun lately August?"
"Yea! I got to spend time with my aunt and uncle and cousins."
"Thats great! I heard the boys talking about there always being a car at your house, so I guess you had plenty of company."
"Oh, yea, it was awesome having them over."
"Thats always nice to be with family."
"Yea."
August stared out the window. Diana didn't know what was going on between her and the guys. She wondered how long it would take Diana to find out. August shook her head to try to forget her thought. They were at the hospital. They piled out of the car and headed towards the building. August walked in and headed straight to the elevators, once inside, August pushed the button for the 9th floor. The ride was silent. The doors opened and they walked out into the lobby. August turned down the hall, with Ellie, Lindsay and Diana following. About halfway down, she turned to a door. She softly knocked, and heard a quiet, yet cheerful reply of "come in!". She pushed the door open. Her mom smiled. The 4 walked in.
"Diana!" her mom exclaimed happily. "I didn't know you were back yet!"
"We came back early!" Diana exclaimed as the two friends embraced.
August's mom smiled.
"Hi girls!" she smiled
"Hi!" replied Lindsay and Ellie
"So Liz, I hear you had your baby! Congratulations!"
Liz smiled
"Thank you Diana, I guess August didn't tell you the surprise!"
"What surprise?" asked Diana, looking to August.
"Mom had twins!" August smiled.
"Twins! Really! Even more congratulations!!"
Liz beamed.
"What are their names?"
"Noelle and Samantha."
"Those names are beautiful!"
Liz and August smiled.
*At The Hanson House*
"Boys?" called Walker.
He watched as his three oldest sons came running. Mackenzie chased after them and hurled himself onto Zac once he reached the room. Zac fought to keep his balance, but was unsuccessful. After fighting to keep his balance, Zac collapsed to the floor laughing, with Mackenzie on top of him. Walker stood with his arms crossed, waiting. Isaac noticed and glared at Zac. Zac immediately stopped laughing and stood up, holding Mackenzie. Walker had a stern look on his face. He looked to Mackenzie.
"Mac?"
"Yes daddy?"
"Could you please go play with Avery and Jess? I need to talk to your brothers."
Mackenzie nodded and tried to get out of Zac's grip. Zac carefully set him on the floor and they watched him run off, in search of his sisters. Walker turned back to the boys.
"Now boys." he began.
The boys exchanged worried looks.
"I want to know what all the screaming was about earlier. I don't appreciate you boys yelling and slamming doors. You know that."
The boys nodded.
"Well?" Walker asked expectantly.
Again, the boys exchanged glances. Taylor spoke up hesitantly.
"We..we got into an argument with August, and we were yelling at her, and she went storming out of here......." he trailed off, looking at the floor.
Walker looked to each of the boys. All three were staring at the floor. He sighed.
"What did you say to her Taylor?"
Taylor looked up.
"Some stuff I shouldn't have."
"Ok. Thats not surprising. Zac and Ike, how were you involved in this?"
Zac looked up.
"We yelled at her too, cuz we thought she was doing something, but we were wrong."
Walker shook his head.
"I expect you boys to apologize to her, you know that, don't you?"
The boys nodded. All of the sudden, Jessica poked her head into the room.
"Daddy?"
"Yes Jess?"
"Can we go to the park?"
Walker looked at his watch. It was about 3:30. He looked back to Jessica.
"Ok, but bring a watch with you. I want you home by 4:30."
Jessica smiled and ran out of the room. About 2 minutes later, they heard a door shut. The house went silent. Walker looked at the boys.
"Now. I want you to go do some practicing. You've got a gig at the mall next week. After that, I expect you to go talk to August, ok?"
The boys nodded and headed out to the garage.
**At The Hospital**
The three girls looked up.
"Well, I had better get going. I need to get home. Sorry." she smiled apologetically.
The girls nodded. August gave her mom a hug, and Lindsay and Ellie waved. They walked out of the room, and headed for the elevator. August's mom was to go home the next day. The girls rode the elevator to the lobby and walked out of the hospital. They climbed into Diana's car ad drove off. Before going home Diana dropped Lindsay off at home. She pulled into Ellie's driveway, and Ellie got out. She waved and walked inside. August was staring out the window, not even realizing where she was. Diana noticed a Jeep in August's driveway.
"August?" she asked.
August turned to her.
"Yes?"
"Who's car is that?"
August glanced around, then turned towards her house. She turned back around.
"Oh. Thats Chris's car. I don't know what he's doing though."
"Oh, ok,"
Diana hesitated.
"August, honey are you alright?"
August sighed and nodded.
"Yea, I'm fine, just a little out of it." she smiled a weak smile.
"Ok, you look sad hon." Diana gave a sympathetic look
August smiled. Diana pulled out of Ellie's driveway and quickly into August's. She pulled up next to Chris's Jeep. He rolled down the window. Diana recognized him and smiled and waved. Chris waved back. August got out of the car.
"Thank you for the ride Diana."
"Don't mention it hon, do you want to come over for some dinner?"
August sighed and then took a deep breath. She shook her head.
"I..I can't. I'm really sorry. I have to find out what Chris is doing here." she stuttered.
"Oh honey, its ok. If you ever want to come over and just hang out, feel free to."
August nodded. She looked towards the house, then remembered the tape.
"Diana?"
"Yes?"
"I have something inside for the guys. Could you give it to them?"
Diana smiled and nodded. August stepped out of the car and ran to the door. She unlocked the door and rushed inside. She grabbed the tape that was sitting on the counter and checked the label on it. She brought it out and handed it to Diana. Diana set it on the seat next to her and smiled. August waved. Diana waved and pulled out of the driveway. August watched her pull into her own driveway a few houses down. She walked over to Chris's window.
"Whats up?" she asked.
"Well, we wanted to know if you wanted to come over for dinner again. We called, and you weren't home, so mom asked us to come over."
August shook her head.
"I really don't feel like going anywhere right now. I'm really sorry."
"Ok, thats fine. We just wanted to check. Well, we had better get going. Cya later Aug."
"Bye, Chris, bye Amy."
She sighed as she walked up to the door. She watched Chris pull out and leave, and then she shut the door. She walked to the kitchen and glanced at the answering machine. There were 6 messages. She sighed, grabbed a notepad and pen, and sat down. She hit the PLAY button, and the messages started. The first message was a hang up, the second and third were for her dad, the fourth was for her dad, the fifth was another hangup, which August spaced out during. When the last message came on, August focused. It was from Taylor.
"Aug, its Taylor. I know that you don't want to talk to me or see me right now, and I get that. I had no right to do that, and I was wrong. You were right. My ego was too big and I couldn't convince myself that you were telling the truth. I'm so sorry, but I don't know if you'll forgive me. Thats up to you, and I understand if you don't want to forgive me. Call me back if you want. I love you."
The recorder beeped and August sighed. She shook her head and walked downstairs to her room. She stepped up to her desk and started up AOL. As it connected, she found some CDS and put them in her CD changer. Once the first song started, she could hear the AOL guy say "Welcome!.....You've got mail!!!".
She glanced at her buddy list. Lindsay was the only one on. She clicked on her mail box. There were chain letters, which she automatically deleted. Thee was an E-mail from one of her friends in Rockford, which she read and replied to. She missed everybody, a lot. She sighed as she finished reading her mail. She sat and stared for a few minutes. Lindsay had logged off, so August had no one to talk to. She clicked on the Member Directory and typed in "83, Tulsa, OK...Members Online." A short list popped up. She looked at some of the profiles. She found one that looked interesting. It was a girl who was the same age as August, she had the same birthday too. She liked sports too. August Imed her.
Spacey1011: hi.
Sportz501: hi.
Sportz501: who are you?

Sportz501: cool, my dad works there too.

Sportz501: hey, maybe we could meet sometime.
Spacey1011: sure, that'd be cool
Sportz501: ok, cool. What street do you live on?

August watched Leigh log off. She sighed, and checked her buddy list. No one was on, so she got off too. She looked at the clock. It was now 5 pm. Her dad was supposed to be home in about an hour. She sighed and flopped on her bed to watch some TV.
