As she flipped through the channels, August began to think. Why was she putting herself through all of this. Did she still care about Taylor? Or didn't she? She sighed and turned off the TV. She wasn't going to find anything. She glanced at the clock. It was about 6:30. August heard a door slam upstairs. She ran her hand through her hair and got off her bed. She walked out of her room and upstairs. Her dad was in the hall putting his briefcase away.
"Hey honey!" he smiled.
She returned the smile and sat down at the kitchen table.
"Sorry I'm late!"
"Its ok dad."
"Ok, thanks. I had to pick up two car seats at the store."
August nodded.
"Guess what?" he said.
"What?" asked August, a curious look on her face.
"Well, I got a call from the doctor about an hour and a half ago......"
"Yea?" interrupted August.
"And..." he continued, "we can bring your mother and the babies home tonight."
August now had a huge smile on her face. She jumped out of her chair and hugged him.
"Can we go now?!" she asked excitedly.
He nodded. She grinned and ran to find her shoes. Once she had them on, she ran back to the hall, where her dad was leaning against the wall. She ran past him and outside. He locked the door and followed her. They got into the car and drove to the hospital.
"So, what did you do today?" asked her dad.
"Not much. I had friends over, and Isaac, Taylor, and Zac came over for awhile, so did Amy and Chris."
"Sounds like you had fun!" he exclaimed.
August smiled a fake smile.
"If you could call it fun..." she muttered under her breath.
The rest of the ride was silent. Once they hd reached the parking lot, and parked the car, August and her father walked into the hospital and to the elevators. They rode up and walked to August's mom's room. Her mom smiled when she saw her daughter and husband walk in. Her parents embraced. August stayed back near the door. She turned and walked out of the room and down the hall to the nursery window. She looked in the room, trying to find the two cribs. She spotted the cribs near the front of the room, close to the front. She gazed at her two sisters. They were beautiful. She looked at Noelle. Her hair was light brown. She was in a pink blanket, and she was asleep. August smiled. She looked at Samantha. She was in a matching outfit, and was also asleep. August grinned wider. She felt a hand on her should and she turned. Her parents were standing behind her, watching. Two nurses walked past the family and into the nursery. They carefully lifted Noelle and Samantha out of their cribs and out to their parents. One nurse carefully gave Samantha to August's mom. The second nurse looked at August and her dad, trying to decided who to give Noelle to. August looked to her dad. He smiled and nodded. She held out her arms, and the nurse placed Noelle in August's arms. The baby yawned. August smiled and put her finger near the baby's hand. Noelle gripped August's finger. August quietly laughed.
"She's so small..." she breathed.
August looked up to her parents. They shared a smile and turned around. They went and checked the babies and their mother out of the hospital and slowly walked to the car. August's dad rushed ahead and pulled the car up to the entrance. He got out and helped August's mother with the car seat, then he helped August. Finally, he helped her into the car. Once they were securely in the car, they drove off.
**At the Hanson home**
"Argh!!!" cursed Taylor as he slammed the phone back in the cradle.
Isaac looked up from his book. Taylor had been sitting at that phone for the past twenty minutes, trying to call August. He had always gotten to the 5th or 6th number and chickened out. He didn't know why. He dropped his head into his hands and sighed. Isaac shook his head.
"Hey Tay?"
"Yea what?" snapped an irritated Taylor.
Isaac winced.
"Find something else to do, calm down and try later."
Taylor looked up and sighed. He nodded and stood up. He walked out of the room he shared with his brothers and walked down the hall. He passed his sister's room, and glanced in. Avery was laying on one of the twin beds, watching her sister. Jessica was stuffing clothes and Barbies and other toys into her backpack. Taylor poked his head in.
"What'cha doin Jess?" he asked.
Jessica looked up, then back at her bag.
"I'm going to Britney's house. I'm spending the night."
"Sounds fun." he replied.
"Yea, it will be. Will you take me over there?" she asked, pausing in her packing.
Taylor hesitated, but then nodded. Jessica smiled.
"When do you want to go?" he asked.
Jessica sighed.
"After dinner" she stated.
Taylor looked at his watch. Dinner should be any minute now. Sure enough, that minute, he heard his mother's voice fill the house.
"Kids! Dinner!" she called.
Jessica and Avery raced out of the room, leaving Taylor and Jessica's half-packed bag. Zac and Isaac raced by the door. Taylor slowly walked out the door and to the stairs. He jumped down them and hurried into the kitchen, where the rest of his family had already gathered. He took his place between Zac and Avery and sat down. Once everyone was in their places, the family joined hands and prayed. As tradition, Zac, Taylor and Isaac finished the prayer by singing "Amen". Once they had finished, everyone dug in.
"Jess, do you need me to take you to Britney's house?" asked Diana.
Jessica shook her head. She finished chewing and spoke.
"Tay's gonna take me."
"Ok, thats fine."
The family finished their dinner and soon each child was helping clear the dishes. Once the table was clear and clean, Jessica rushed back upstairs to finish packing. While she was finishing, Taylor walked into the garage and turned on his keyboard. He played a few notes and softly began singing.
Every night I think of you
and I don't know what to do
you fill my mind and heart
Baby, I'm never sad when I'm with you
When the people we love are stolen away
the world seems to end
the way to have them live on
is to never stop loving.
When you love someone so much
its hard to say goodbye.
but they'll live on if you never stop loving.
Buildings burn,
people die,
but real love is forever...
never stop loving
Real love stands forever
In times of trial and sadness
Real loves stands when happiness comes
and when sorrow appears.
never stop loving
I'll never stop loving you.
As he hung on to the last note, he heard soft clapping. He turned around to find Isaac, Zac, Jessica, Avery and Mackenzie watching him. He smiled and turned off the keyboard.
"Can we go now Tay?" asked Jessica.
Taylor nodded and they walked out of the house. It had started to get dark outside. They walked down the driveway and to the street. As they walked, Jessica began talking.
"Tay?" she asked.
"Yea Jess?"
"Why don't you talk to August anymore? Is something wrong?"
Taylor looked down at his sister, her curious eyes stared back at him. He sucked in a breath and slowly let it out.
"Well Jess, I don't really know. I did some stuff that I shouldn't have, and it hurt August's feelings, and she's mad at me." he looked at the ground.
Jessica stopped walking. Noticing this, Taylor stopped too. Jessica stepped to him and gave him a hug. He embraced her and lifted her off the ground. After a few minutes of her giggly pleads, he set her on the ground. They continued walking until they had reached Britney's house. Taylor recognized the house and a feeling of dread entered his stomach.
