Welcome to Pianist/Composer Scott David Smith's Web Site

I'm a prolific songwriter. Part of my e-business involves offering people the opportunity to commission a song for any occassion: advertising jingle, love song for an anniversary, wedding, holiday, etc.

On January of 2002, Scott David Smith entered into a partnership with Anna Huckabee Tull, a noted songwriter from Boston. We are both professional songwriters and have the same approach to doing commissioned songs. Here's how it works:
  • If you want a song written for any occasion or purpose, just email one of us. Anna specializes in guitar work, while I specialize in (what else?) keyboards.
  • We both have demo recordings of work we have done for prior clients. Samples of my best published songs, plus other songs I wrote for commission, are below.
  • The fee is $500. You pay half up-front after the initial consultation, which will generally be done by phone and via email. The up-front $250 compensates us for the fact that we will spend a LOT of time writing music, lyrics, and producing a "rough cut" of the song.
  • After I finish the rough cut, I will have you review the lyrics and a 45-second sample of the music. If you are satisfied, you will pay the remaining balance for me to finish producing and recording the song professionally. You will get a copy of the song on CD plus a lyric sheet and anything else that we've agreed to up front.
  • You and I will need to fill-out and sign a copy of the "Commission and License Agreement" (31KB, Word format).
  • If you decide that the song is not to your liking, you pay nothing further and have no further obligation.

Below are links to various songs I have written, whether for myself or others. I use a professional singer for songs written for commission, so don't be scared by my somewhat unprofessional voice. These are all what we call "rough cuts" in the music industry.

  • Uni-Copy Jingle (words and music)
  • Born of Dreams (word and music)
  • Untitled (Alone in This) (word and music)
  • The Perfect Thing (poetry only):
  • You Take My Breath Away (music only)
  • In the Blackness (word and music)
  • Zero Sum (word and music)
  • Dear John (word and music)
  • A Christmas song (music only)

ALSO: I created a "Classic Cuts" CD for promotional purposes only if you'd like to hear the best songs I've written and published as of 2001. Click here to order the Classic Cuts CD.

If you decide to work with me, here are some things that would help:
  • Your name and phone number, so I can call you.
  • Several intimate photos of the subject matter (e.g. the lucky guy, gal, or couple)
  • Tell me the story that your song needs to get across to it's audience
  • Tell me how you will know if the song "works"
  • Pick what kind of song you want it to be. Here is a sample of various dance styles. You might see if one of these is right for the song you're looking for: http://geocities.datacellar.net/jaichavan/indexmus.htm
