This Story is dedicated to my friend Lisa. I hope there’s Internet in heaven! *LOL*

Lisa’s been a special person in my life, and when she died, well, I want to do something special for her. She always loved reading my stories, even if I didn’t put her as a character in any of them. Well, now, this story is starring her as the very main character. Most of the stuff in this story are exaggerated. Lisa’s real parents does not treat her like that! Remember that this story is fiction…completely fiction. I do not own the Moffatts. They belong to their perspective owners. Do not copy this. We should all respect everyone’s work, and not copy them. Thank you.

An Angel’s Help

Prologue

Lisa couldn’t take it. She dropped onto her bed and started to cry. Her parents were being unfair to her again. They loved her older bother and sister, but Lisa is always the last one in the crowd. It’s not just only being unfair to her. They don’t love her. They ignore most of the time, and they sometime yell and hit her. Lisa knows what they’re doing was wrong. She doesn’t deserve to be treated like that.
Lisa had gotten a 79% on her math test, which was good because she was sick for almost a week with the flu. Her parents yelled and beat her because she didn’t get an 80%. They didn’t understand that it was a good mark. While Lisa was sick, no one took care of her. She never felt a real hug in her life. She was treated like dirt ever since she was born. She was not allowed to go out with anyone, and after school, she was to come straight home. If not, she’ll get yelled at, and get beaten. She had no friends, because everyone thought that she was weird, having no stylish clothing, and no lunch. Until one day…

Part 1

“Hey, can I sit with you?” a timid voice asked.
Lisa looked up. A girl with curly blond hair smiled at her.
“Um, sure.” Lisa answered.
“My name is Sarah. I’m new here. What’s your name?” the girl asked.
“I’m Lisa.” Lisa smiled. She was comfortable around the girl.
“Do you want to come to my house today?” Sarah asked.
“I can’t.” Lisa replied.
“Why not?” asked Sarah.
Lisa wanted to tell her everything. Sarah was so friendly and her smile was contagious, so Lisa nodded.
“I’ll come to your house, but not too long, because my parents will get really mad.” Lisa said.
“Ok.”
So after school, Lisa followed Sarah home and met her parents. They were so friendly, with eyes and smiles just like Sarah. Lisa felt comfortable around them.
When Lisa looked at her watch, she almost cried. She was half an hour late. She’s gonna get it. She gave Sarah and her parents a polite good bye and dashed out of the house.

“WHERE WERE YOU?” boomed her father’s voice.
“I was...”
“I DON’T CARE!” He slapped her hard in the face.
Lisa turned and ran upstairs. She ran to her bed and cried herself to sleep. When she woke up, it was 10:00pm. Lisa opened her window and climbed out onto the tree by her room and climbed down. She ran all the way to Sarah’s house and knocked on the door.

“May I...Lisa? Sweetie, what are you doing here? Are you ok? What happened?” asked Sarah’s mom.
Lisa told all. Everything about how she felt about life. Everything that was in her head, she told.

For the next couple months, Sarah’s family is like her own. They tell each other everything. To Sarah’s parents, Lisa is like a second daughter to them. Sarah became Lisa’s best friend.
Lisa thought as long as Sarah’s family is with her, everything will be fine. That was true, until…

~*~*~

After school, Lisa walked to her house and saw a ‘For Sale’ sign on the front lawn.
“What’s going on?” she asked herself.
She opened the front door and couldn’t believe her eyes. Everything was gone! The furniture, the food, her belongings were all gone. Her family left the city without bringing their daughter.
Lisa ran to her house and toward Sarah’s. She needed to talk. She needed a place to stay, and Sarah’s house is the only place left.

“NO!” Lisa cried when she saw the burning house. She was walking to Sarah’s house to talk to them when she heard the ambulance and fire truck from around the corner. Sarah’s house was on fire! Smoke and flames flew from the window.
“We can’t save them.” She heard the firemen say.
Lisa ran up to them. “You have to save them!” she cried. “You just have to!”
“I’m sorry hon. I’m really sorry.” The fireman shook his head.
Lisa started to cry. She broke into a run and ran down the street.

~*~*~ Meanwhile… ~*~*~

“Hey, check out that house! It’s on fire!” exclaimed Bob.
“I hope the people are all right.” Dave said.
Suddenly, a girl ran passed them and right into Scott.
“What the heck?” Scott groaned.
“Are you ok?” Dave asked, walking over to the girl, who’s still on top of Scott, sobbing. He placed a hand on her shoulder, and couldn’t believe what he felt. He felt bones. The girl was a twig!
The girl jumped when she felt his touch, and looked up. She stared into a pair of deep brown eyes.
Dave offered his hand to the girl, and Clint, Bob and Scott watched as the girl took Dave’s hand and slowly got up on her feet.
“Are you ok?” Dave asked again.
The girl started to run again. She ran down the street into the park.
The Moffatts looked at each other in confusion, and darted after the girl. Suddenly, the girl’s eyes fluttered, and she blacked out.
Scott and Bob ran up to the girl first, and caught her before she fell. Scott carried the unconscious girl in his arms and looked at his brother. They all shared the same puzzled look.
“What should we do now?” asked Clint.
“I don’t know.” Said Scott.
“There’s the paramedics!” cried Bob. He sprinted towards them and explained what happened.
They rushed over and carried the girl’s limp body to the hospital. Dave and Scott went with her, while Bob and Clint went home to tell their parents.

No matter what they tell us
No matter what they do
No matter what they teach us
What we believe is true
No matter what they call us
However they attack
No matter what they take us
We’ll find our own way back

“Do you know what’s wrong with her?” Asked Dave.
The doctor sighed. “The girl had no nutrition whatsoever. I think the last time ate was last week.”
“Poor girl!” gasped Sheila.
They heard a soft moan.
“She’s coming to.” Said Clint.
The girl slowly opened her eyes. “Where am I?” she asked. She looked at Dave, who was sitting beside her. “Who are you?”
“My name is Dave.” Dave said gently. “You were running and you passed out. We brought you here.”
“My name is Scott. Who are your parents?” asked Scott.
“My family left. They left the city without me.” The girl said.
“That’s awful!” said Frank.
The girl slowly sat up. “My name is Lisa Ann Jerome, but please, call me Lisa. My parents hated me. The only people I cared about died in the fire.”
“Are you serious?” asked Clint. “By the way, I’m Clint.”
Lisa nodded.
“That mean you don’t have a place to stay?” asked Dave.
Lisa shook her head. “No.” She whispered.
“You can stay with us.” Said Sheila. “I’m Sheila and this is Frank. We’re their parents.”
“Nice to meet you,” Lisa said, “and thank you.”

“So Lisa, how old are you?” Dave asked her when they’re in the car, driving to the Moffatt house.
“I’m 15.”
“Cool. So are we.” Said Bob.
“We?” asked Lisa.
“Yeah, Bob, Dave and I are triplets.” Said Clint.
“Oh.” Lisa blushed.
“Hey, no need to be embarrassed.” Scott said comfortably. “You’re gonna be like our sister.”

Part 2

“Here we are.” Said Sheila, walking into Dave and Clint’s room. “You can sleep here.” She turned to Dave and Scott. “Scott, can you and Dave stay here with Lisa? She seems to be closer to you two.” She turned to Clint. “You’re staying with Bob, but don’t be staying up all night!”
“Ok mom.” Said Clint, leaving the room.
Sheila turned back to Lisa. She pointed to the bottom bunk of the bunk bed. “You can sleep here. Scott and Dave will be here if you need anything. Why don’t you change out of those clothes and take a shower? You can wear something of Dave’s and then we can have supper, ok?”
Lisa nodded. ‘Supper.’ She thought as she watched Sheila walked out of the room.
“I’ll sleep on the floor.” Dave offered. Scott nodded.
Dave walked over to his closet and picked out a pair of shorts and a tee that’s too small for him for Lisa to change into. Scott found a fluffy clean towel for her.
Lisa walked into the bathroom and locked the door. Outside, she heard Dave yell, “NO ONE GO INTO THE BATHROOM!”
Lisa smiled to herself. They were being so nice to her.
Lisa took off her dirty clothes and walked into the hot shower. The hot water splashed against her skin and she felt the warmth around her. It was comforting. She got out of the shower and put on the clothes Dave got for her.
She walked out of the bathroom and into her room. Dave was there, listening to a CD.
Lisa walked over to Dave. Dave looked up and smiled. “Hey.” He said, smiling. “Here, listen to this, I have a feeling you’ll like it.” He said, putting a 98 Degrees CD into the stereo.

We both know that I shouldn’t be here
This is wrong
And baby it’s killing me
It’s killing you
Both of us trying to be strong
I’ve got somewhere else to be
Promises to keep
Someone else who loves me
And trusts me fast asleep
I’ve made up my mind
There is no turning back
She’s been good to me
And she deserves better than that.

It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to do
To look you in the eye
And tell you I don’t love you
It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to lie
To show no emotion
When you start to cry
I can’t let you see
What you mean to me
When my hands are tied
And my heart’s not free
We’re not meant to be
It’s the hardest thing I’ll ever have to do
To turn around and walk away
Pretending I don’t love you

I know that we’ll meet again
Fate has a place and time
So you can get on with your life
I’ve got to be cruel to be kind
Like Dr. Zhivago
All my love I’ll be sending
And you will never know
‘Cause there can be no happy ending

It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to do
To look you in the eye
And tell you I don’t love you
It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to lie
To show no emotion
When you start to cry
I can’t let you see
What you mean to me
When my hands are tied
And my heart’s not free
We’re not meant to be
It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to do
To turn around and walk away
Pretending I don’t love you

Maybe another time, another day
As much as I want to, I can’t stay
I’ve made up my mind
There’s no turning back
She’s been good to me
And she deserves better than that

It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to do
To look you in the eye
And tell you I don’t love you
It’s the hardest thing
I’ll ever have to lie
To show no emotion
When you start to cry

Lisa looked up with tears in her eyes. “It’s a beautiful song.”
“Yeah, I had a feeling you’d like it. It’s by a band called 98 Degrees. Have you heard of them?” Dave asked comfortably.
“No.” Lisa shook her head.
“Well, you can borrow my CDs anytime you want, and if I see one of their videos, and any of the pop videos, I’ll tell you, ok?” Dave asked.
“Ok.”
“Dave! Lisa! Supper time!” called Frank.
“Come on, let’s go and have supper.” Dave said, grabbing her hand and leading her to the kitchen.

After dinner, the boys and Lisa were hanging out in the living room, watching TV. Dave changed the channel and stopped when he saw a video by 98 Degrees.
“Lisa, this is a video by 98 Degrees. It’s not ‘The Hardest Thing’, it’s ‘Because of you’. You’ll like this song too.” Said Dave.
“Do you know their names?” asked Lisa.
“Sure, the guy with the goatee is Justin, the one with the hat is Drew, the guy in the tank top is Jeff, and the lead singer is Nick.”
“Thank you.” Lisa said. She watched the video.

“Good night Lisa. Good night Scott.” Dave said before he turned off the light.
“Good night.” They replied.
Lisa quickly drifted off to sleep.

“You little terror! You’re a mistake! We hate you!”
Lisa turned around, looking for a friendly face, but found none. She was in a gym, and she can see her family’s mean faces everywhere. She tried to run, but she can’t.

Dave and Scott woke up when Lisa started to cry in her sleep. They kneeled beside her bed.
“Lisa?” Scott whispered, leaning closer to her. Lisa’s arms were waving around, as if people were attacking her. Her hand waved around and slapped Scott’s face.
“Oh shit.” Scott mumbled, rubbing his face.

Part 3

Dave covered his mouth from laughing. It was a pretty funny sight, but seeing Lisa in that state made him stop smiling. He sat at the edge of the bed and gently rubbed her shoulder. Lisa calmed down and began to sleep peacefully.
Scott climbed up to his bed and quickly fell asleep.
Dave was about to fall asleep when a voice called him.
“Dave.”
Dave turned to Lisa, who was still sleeping. Feeling puzzled, Dave closed his eyes again.
“Dave” the voice called again.
“Dave turned around on the floor and saw three pairs of blue eyes looking back at him.
“Who are you?” he whispered.
“We died in the fire. My name is Sarah and these are my parents, Sandra and Patrick. We’re like Lisa’s second family and she comes to us when she needs help.” Said the youngest one with blond hair.
“I’m so sorry about what happened.” Said Dave. “How did it happen?”
“We were watching TV when the gas pipe leaked, and since we have candles around, it’s not that hard for the whole house to burst into flames.” Said Patrick.
“I’m sorry.” Said Dave.
“Don’t be sorry.” Sandra said. “I want you and your brothers to take care of Lisa, but I especially want you to take care of her. You two have something special. You just need to find it. Remember to be gentle and slow to Lisa. There are lots of things that she never experienced before.” Sandra said.
“Like what?” asked Dave.
“We’ll tell you more later.” Said Sarah. “We have to go now. We’ll talk to you soon Dave. Good bye.” She said before they faded away in front of his eyes.
Dave rubbed his eyes. He couldn’t believe he saw that. He stared at the ceiling for a couple of minutes, then he fell asleep.

Dave woke up with the sun in his eyes. He rubbed his eyes and sat up. Scott was in the bathroom and Lisa was still asleep. Dave walked over to his stereo and put an *N Sync CD in. ‘God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You’ started to play softly. Dave climbed up on Scott’s bunk and watched Lisa sleep. ‘She’s like a little angel.’ Dave thought, suddenly thinking about his three visitors last night.

Lisa woke up listening to a song. She rubbed her eyes and looked up. Dave’s brown eyes looked back at her.
Dave smiled. “Good morning.” He said.
“Good morning.” She replied. “What’s that song?” she asked. “That’s ‘God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You’ by *N Sync.” Dave said.
“It’s a nice song.” Lisa murmured, standing up. Dave jumped off the bunk bed and went to his closet to get some clothes for Lisa. “We’re probably going to go shopping for clothes for you with mom today.” Dave said.
“Ok.”
Just then, Scott walked into the room wearing only a towel. He looked at Dave, then he looked at Lisa. His face turned red with embarrassment.
“Oh Shit!” Scott cried, running back into the bathroom.
Lisa and Dave burst out laughing.
Scott walked back into the room, wearing a tee and a pair of jeans. “I just have to remember that there’s a girl in our room, and I’m not sharing a room with Bob anymore.” Scott said sheepishly.
“Why don’t you use the bathroom now, Lisa?” Dave asked. “I’ll use Dad’s.”
“Ok.” Lisa got up and walked into the bathroom.
Scott turned to Dave. “You like her, don’t you?”
“No, she’s like a sister to me.” Dave said.

Part 4

“Lisa, that shirt will look nice on you.” Scott said, pointing to a blue shirt with a flower pattern around the collar and the sleeves.
“It does look nice.” Commented Sheila.
The boys and Lisa were going shopping with Sheila. Sheila was picking out clothes, while the boys were carrying all the stuff. After they picked out several tees, sweatshirts, shorts, shirts, dress pants, jeans, and a couple of skirts and dresses, the 6 of them went over to the shoe store to buy a pair of dress shoes and a pair of running shoes.

“I am never shopping with a girl again!” Bob moaned, lying back into his seat in the shoe store, while Lisa and Sheila were picking a pair of dress shoes. They already picked a pair of running shoes. The 4 Moffatt boys were lying on the chairs like dead dogs.
“Ok, we’re going home!” Sheila announced.
“Finally!” they exclaimed.

“What are we doing today, Mom?” asked Clint when they’re driving home in a car.
“Well, Aunt Jodie is inviting us over for a family dinner. It’s formal, so I want you four clean!”
“But mom!” Complained the boys.
“No buts! You guys are wearing suits and ties. From what I know of, your cousins Jennifer and Jake are inviting some friends over, so you’ll be having a dance thing downstairs in the basement.” Said Sheila. “Lisa, you’re coming too.”
“Are you sure that’s ok?” asked Lisa.
“Of course dear. You’re a part of my family now.” Sheila said comfortably.
Lisa wasn’t expecting that, so she started to cry. The only people who ever cared for her were Sarah’s family.
“Lisa! Why are you crying?” Exclaimed Dave.
“Nothing. Nobody ever treated me as well as you guys, that’s all.”

~*~*~

“I hate formal dinners.” Said Clint.
“Me too.” Bob said, tugging on his tie.
“Where’s mom and Lisa, anyway?” asked Scott.
“Mom’s helping Lisa with her stuff. I guess mom always wanted a daughter, and she finally got one.” Said Dave.
“We’re coming!” Called Sheila. She walked down the stairs wearing a dress that flatter her figure.
Lisa followed her, wearing her new clothes. She’s wearing a purple velvet dress and a pair of black heels. Her brown hair was piled up onto her head, with little thin curls hanging out.
The boys looked at Lisa with wide eyes. Lisa looked really beautiful.
“Lisa, you look really nice.” Said Scott.
“Yeah, you look great.” Dave nodded his head. “Would you like to be my date for the dinner?” Dave asked with a smile.
“Sure.” Lisa blushed.

~*~*~

“I just want to warn you about our cousins Jennifer and Jake. They are really snobby and mean. So, I want you to stay close to us.” Scott said to Lisa.
“Ok.” Lisa said, as they rang the doorbell.
A snobby looking girl opened the door. “Hello Uncle Frank, hello Aunt Sheila.” She said, and turned to the boys. “Hello Scott, Clint, Bob, Dave.” She looked at Lisa. “Excuse me, but this is a private party, so why don’t you get the—”
“Cool it Jennifer.” Dave warned. “She’s with us.” He said, taking Lisa’s hand and pulling her in.
As soon as they walked in Aunt Jodie stopped them.
“Hello Frank, hello Sheila. I see you brought your boys.” She leaned towards the boys so close that they took a step back.
“Hello Aunt Jodie.” They said in unison.
“Hello. I see you brought a friend. David, is she your girlfriend?” she asked.
“She’s a part of our family now.” Said Frank. “This is Lisa. She’s very close to our boys.”
“It’s Dave.” Said Dave.
“How sweet.” Jodie gave Lisa a fake smile and ushered the boys into the basement.
