The next day, Amy, Rhonda and Katie left the hotel to stay with Amy’s relatives. Before they left, Katie and Amy told Bob and Clint that they’d come to their hotel room at around 4:00 or so. Amy, Rhonda and Katie went to Rhonda’s cousin’s house, Michelle and Scott. After talking with Michelle, Scott, and their kids, Kristy and Brian for awhile, Rhonda, Michelle, Kristy, Katie and Amy decided to go shopping.
“Maybe I’ll find another treble clef,” said Amy.
“Maybe. We’ll have to look,” said Katie. When they got to the mall, they walked around with Amy’s mom, Michelle, and Kristy for awhile before deciding to go into the music store. When they walked into the store, Amy said, “Hey, there’s Clint and Bob.”
“Oh, wow,” Katie said. They walked over to them.
“Hi,” they said.
“Hey!” Bob and Clint exclaimed, hugging them both. Amy and Katie hugged them back, slightly surprised. They had never hugged them before.
“What are you guys doing?” Katie asked.
“Just shopping around,” replied Clint.
“Cool,” Katie and Amy said. After hanging around in the music store for a few more minutes, Amy wanted to go look for another treble clef.
“Do you guys wanna come with us?” she asked.
“Sure,” Clint and Bob answered.
“Okay, just let us go buy these CDs first,” said Katie, indicating the CDs she and Amy had been carrying around. After Katie and Amy were done purchasing their CDs, the four of them set off to try to find another treble clef. After looking in a few stores, they found one. However, it was $20 with a chain, and Amy only had $11 left over after buying her CD.
“I would give you the money for it, but I only have $7 left, and I left all my other money at Scott and Michelle’s,” Katie told her.
“So did I,” said Amy. She sighed. “Oh, well. I guess I’ll just come back and get it some other day. But my luck, it’ll be gone.”
“Probably, according to Murphy’s Law,” Katie agreed. (~*AN*~ Murphy’s Law is as follows: Anything that can go wrong, will.) They left the store, and started walking down to the food court.
About a half-hour later, while they were in the food court, Clint said, “I’ll be right back. I’m gonna go to the bathroom.”
“Okay,” Amy, Bob and Katie said. Clint got up and started walking to the bathroom. About fifteen minutes later, he came back.
“Geez, took you long enough. What’d you do, walk to the bathrooms at the other end of the mall?” asked Bob.
“Yeah. And on my way I picked up this,” Clint said, holding up a bag.
“A plastic bag?” Katie asked.
Clint rolled his eyes. “There’s something in it,” he said.
“What?” asked Amy.
“Why don’t you open it and find out?” suggested Clint, handing it to her. Amy looked at him quizzically, took the bag from him, and opened it.
“Oh, my gosh!” she exclaimed.
“What?” Katie and Bob asked in unison.
“He got me the treble clef necklace.” She held it up so we could see it.
“Oh, wow,” Katie said.
Amy put it around her neck, then said, “Thank you so much,” to Clint. She stood up and gave him a hug.
“You’re welcome,” Clint said, hugging her back. About ten minutes later, they left the food court so Amy and Katie could find Rhonda, Michelle, and Kristy. When they found them, Amy and Katie said goodbye to Clint and Bob since they were gonna go back to the hotel. After giving them hugs, Amy told them that they’d come to their hotel room after they were done shopping. They said that’d be fine, then left. By the time Kristy, Katie, Rhonda, Amy and Michelle were done shopping, it was 3:30. Rhonda dropped Amy and Katie off at the hotel, saying that she would pick them up around six. Amy and Katie walked into the hotel, and went up to Bob and Clint’s room. Bob answered after they had knocked on the door. Amy and Katie gave him and Clint a hug. The four of them sat on the beds talking and listening to the radio. About ten minutes before six, ‘Zoot Suit Riot’ by the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies came on the radio.
“Oh, yes!” Katie exclaimed.
“Hey, do either of you know how to swing dance?” asked Bob.
“I do,” Katie said.
“Come on,” Bob said, standing up.
“What, you know how?”
“Yeah, come on, let’s dance!” (~*AN*~ I don’t really know if Bob knows how to swing dance, but well…it’s just an idea!) Katie stood up, and she and Bob danced to ‘Zoot Suit Riot’. It was wicked fun.
“Man, that was so fun!” Katie exclaimed when the song was over.
“Yeah, it was,” Bob agreed.
Amy, who was looking out the window watching for her mom, said, “My mom’s here.”
“Hey, do you guys wanna go swimming in the river again tomorrow?” asked Clint.
“Okay,” Amy and Katie agreed.
“I’ll ask my mom, and we’ll call you tonight, okay?” said Amy.
“Okay,” Bob and Clint agreed. Amy and Katie gave them a hug, then went out to the car. When they got to Scott and Michelle’s, they went into the den.
“I think Bob likes you,” said Amy.
“Yeah, I wish,” said Katie.
“He does.”
“No, he doesn’t, but I think Clint likes you.”
Amy rolled her eyes. “Yeah, whatever.”
“Why else would he buy you that necklace?”
“I don’t know.”
“Ha! I make a fine point.”
“Oh, shut-up. He’s just nice.”
Katie shook her head. They were silent for a moment before she turned to Amy and said, “I have an awesome idea.”
“What?” asked Amy.
They turned towards each other, and Katie started to divulge her plan to her.
