Pop Will Eat Itself was formed in Stourbridge, England in 1986. Comprised of vocalist / guitarist Clive Mansell, keyboardist Adam Mole, drummer Graham Crabb and bassist Richard March. PWEI's biggest hit was in 1993 'Get The Girl, Kill The Baddies'. The story goes that Pop Will Eat Itself sent one of their tracks to Liam and he totally re-constructed the tune. The result was 'Their Law' which became an anthem of the Anti-Criminal Justice Bill. Tom Morello Tom Morello used to be the guitarist of the Rage Against The Machine, nowadays a member of Audio Slave. Prodigy have toured with Rage and Liam has said that Rage is one his favourite bands. Liam asked Tom to send a DAT tape of "some fucked up guitar". Liam and Tom never met during the writing process. The result was 'One Man Army' which was released on the soundtrack of Spawn The Movie. Liam made a remix of the song and it was released on 'Smack My Bitch Up' single, titled as 'No Man Army'. Kool Keith Kool Keith (real name Keith Thornton) used to be a member of one of Liam's favourite bands Ultramagnetic MC's. Liam sampled Ultaramgnetic MC's song 'Critical Beatdown' in 1992 on 'Out Of Space'. Liam started to work with Kool Keith in the end of 1996. Liam just sent a tape to Keith to USA and asked him to do raping on it. Liam did not met Kool Keith during the writing process. He got 40 grand for doing the vocals for 'Diesel Power'. Years later, Kool Keith once again appeared on the Prodigy's album when he delivered vocals on 'Wake Up Call'. Perry Farrell Liam wanted to work with Porno For Pyros lead singer. Liam wrote a track to which he asked Farrell to provide vocals. Farrell wanted the Prodigy to perform at his Lollapalooza festivals in the USA which wasn't possible due to Prodigy's schedule. Liam replaced Farrell with Crispian Mills. The song which Liam had wrote for Farrell turned out to be 'Climbatize'. Crispian Mills Crispian Mills is the lead singer of Kula Shaker. Liam wanted to collaborate with Mills after hearing 'Tatwa' by Kula Shaker. The result was 'Narayan' which was released on 'The Fat Of The Land'. Originally 'Narayan' was meant to be titled 'Western Sun' but after the Chemical Brothers did 'Setting Sun' Liam decided to change the song title. Shahin Badar Female vocalist who provided vocals for 'Smack My Bitch Up'. Has collaborated with some other dance artists as well, more recently with house hero Tim Deluxe. Skin Skin is the lead singer of Skunk Anansie. Prodigy wanted to collaborate with Skin already in the Jilted era but the collaboration happened years later. The song which Liam and Skin wrote, 'Take Me On', has never been released even though the song was originally planned to be released on The Fat Of The Land but Liam felt that the song was too poppy. However, Skin appeared on Maxim's solo record (she co-wrote 'Carmen Queasy'). Saffron Saffron was born in Nigeria. She was an old friend to Prodigy members since the early days when she was a member of N-Joy and the Shamen. Later she became famous as the front woman of Republica. She did the background vocals for 'Fuel My Fire' which was a cover of L7's song. 'Fuel My Fire' was released on 'The Fat Of The Land'. Primal Scream Liam collaborated with the British act Primal Scream on their album 'Exterminator'. There is a rumour that Liam did some drums for 'Five Years Ahead Of My Time' for a version which hasn't been released (one version was available on their album CD-R promos). Liam was, never the less, credited in their album booklet. Massive Attack Liam has worked with 3D (real name Ropert del Naja) from Massive Attack. The result was 'No Souvenirs'. Originally it was meant to be released on 'The Beach' soundtrack but Liam and 3D thought that it would be too commercial. 'No Souvenirs' hasn't been released yet. The Ping Pong Bitches This female electro-rock trio of Mandy Wong, Louise Prey, and Emily Hell provided vocals for 'Girls'. Their self-titled debut EP appeared in 2001. Prinsess Superstar Female dirt-rapper Prinsess Superstar (real name Concetta Kirshner) did vocals for 'Memphis Bells'. She's native New Yorker and has been recording music for years for such labels as Rapster and Corrupt Conglomerate. She has collaborated with Kool Keith who's also a Prodigy collaborator. Twista Chicago rapper Twista has recorded several album and has recently gained some chart success in the USA. He did rapping for 'Get Up Get Off'. Paul Jackson A member of local Essex punk band Dirty Candy. Collaborated on 'Action Radar'. Liam: "I heard ‘em while I was in the bath. I was like, 'Turn that fucking shit down!' Nat's daughter told me it was her friend's dad, so I rang him up and got him to sing on this." Juliette Lewis Hollywood actress Juliette Lewis is a member of The Licks. A friend of Liam heard Juliette's voice and recomended her to Liam. She ended up doing vocals for 'Spitfire' and 'Hotride'. Liam & Noel Gallagher The naughty boys of the Brit band Oasis have been friends with the Prodigy for years. Liam Gallagher is married to Liam Howlett's wife's sister. The Gallaghers collaborated on 'Shoot Down' so that Liam did the vocals and Noel played bassguitar. |
