Keith Palmer, to his friends Keeti, was in Peterborough in 1967. His first clubbing experience was when he was 13 years old when he became interested in 2-tone and raggae scene and his first live gig was when he was 17 when he MC'ed at a club in Basingstoke. Soon after he hooked up with Nottingham producer Ian Sherwood (aka Sheik Yan Groove) who provided the music and Keith the lyrics. He had taked the name MC Maxim Reality by this point. The collaboration was successfull one and later Maxim decided to move to London. Met was the last member to join the Prodigy. He got to know the band his friend, and Prodigy's first manager, Ziggy phoned to him asked would he be interested in joining a rave act. Maxim have had a couple of rave experiences but he hadn't enjoyed them and when he met the band for the first time at their first gig in Dhalston in London he was unintrested, even though Liam had sent him a tape before the meeting and he had liked it, but after he changed his Mcing style into more dance-scene style he was a full-time member. Maxim used to be MC Maxim Reality but he dropped "Reality" in 1995 and is now known only as Maxim. At first he was a big part of Prodigy's music apart from their live shows but his high light was on 'Poison' when he came up with the lyrics for the song. He has wroked for years on own material and his first record 'Grim Reaper EP, under the name of Grim Reaper, was released back in 1994 as a 12" white label. His first commercial EP came out in August 1999 as 'My Web EP' and in October he released an album 'Hell's Kitchen'. Maxim has two sons, Kai and Tay, with his long-time girl friend Lindsey who he has been with since pre-Prodigy days. I think this interwiev gives a good picture of Maxim: What song describes you best? "Snoop's Gin and Juice: 'Rolling down the street. smoking Indo, sipping on gin and juice / Laid back, with my mind on my money and my money on my mind'." What is heaven? "Having seven wives." What is hell? "I'd rather just think of it as a joke. So I'll have to say Supermarket Sweep." What is your earliest memory? "Being in a classroom at the age of three or four, while our teacher fed us bonbons. She used to do that every Friday afternoon. For some reason I find that pretty memorable." What is your greatest fear? "Being shut in a small room with birds. I've had a few in my house before, and it's a nightmare getting rid of them." Who is your all-time hero? "Nelson Mandela. For him to come out of prison, after so long, and end up President of South Africa - that's amazing." What's the worst trouble you've ever been in? "Loads, but I've never been caught. But the worst trouble, I really couldn't say. I might get in trouble if I said it!" Who was the first love of your life? "I had a big crush on one of my teachers. I was probably about 13 or 14 at the time." What is your greatest talent? "I've been told it's my tongue." Upon whom would you most like to exact revenge? "Racists, sexists and bigots." What's your most treasured possession? "My house; my sanctuary, where I can get away from it all." What have you most regretted doing while drunk? "When I'm drunk, I'm a nightmare, I'm shocking. I get really, really abusive, so the morning after, I have to phone everyone up and apologise." What can you cook? "I can cook anything. But I can't guarantee that it'll taste good." What's the best advice you've ever received? "Be original. Someone told me that when I'd just started MCing." Can you read music? "No. And I can't play an instrument either." If you were invisible for a day, what would you do? "I'd go and hide in Halle Berry or Tyra Banks' bathroom. Yeah, a tour of bathrooms." What are your three final wishes? "That I'll have a prosperous life, that I'll find happiness, and (laughing) that every man should have seven wives. So you get a choice on Saturday night!" |
