THE PRODIGY EXPERIENCE What Evil Lurks Uses a sample from 40s radio series 'The Shadow'. 'What Evil Lurks' EP did not enter the offical UK chart but it was 31st in the dance charts. The EP sold 7,000 copies. Though the EP was titled as 'What Evil Lurks', 'Android' was the most played tune on the EP. Probably that's why the EP was released in the Nedherlands on Torso Dance recordings titled as 'Android'. The Dutch release is rare as hell. We Gonna Rock Uses a sample from 'Different Strokes' performed by Syl Johnson. Some webpages claim that 'We Gonna Rock' would sample Public Enemy's 'Fight The Power' but the reason for that is that Public Enemy used the same sample on their song. Android Contains a sample from 'Road To The Riches' performed by Kool G Rap & DJ Polo. This shorter version of the original mix is one minute shorter than the original. The mix is available on Turn Up The Bass Volume 16. Everybody In The Place 'Everybody In The Place' was originally released containing five songs (XLS 26 CD). However due to chart entry demands 'Rip up The Sound System' was dropped and the single was re-released containing four songs (XLS 26 CD2). Its highest position was no. 2 - the no. 1 spot was held by Queen's reissue of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. This remix was done by Moby who toured with the Prodigy in the USA in early 1993. Charly Liam wrote 'Charly' at the end of 1990. The story is that Liam got home after clubbing, he watched TV and there was this 70s children's information film where he did the sampling. The voice of Charly is by Kenny Everett and Liam even got sued for making the sampling, but the sue was dropped. Liam: "It was the bollocks. I thought if I put that to a really hard sound it would result in something totally new." "I took the sounds and put them on to this really hard beat. The first mix was at the very and of 1990, and was played at our first PA at The Labyrint, but eventually I re-mixed it again for the single. That second mix was basically more techno, more danceable and more listeneable it you like, whereas the original had a really heavy ragga sub-bass line running through it." This longer version of the 7" Edit is only available on 'Hardcore Ecstrasy' compilation. Though the song is titled on the record as 7" Edit, the Edit it lasts 3:38 but the song on the CD lasts 5:05. A remix by Joey Beltram. Spacehooper This song was included on the original 10 track demo tape which Liam sent to XL Recordings back in 1990. It eventually became available in September 2004 when Liam put it to the official Prodigy website for fans to download it for free. Your Love Vocal sample is taken from 'Shelter Me' by Circuit. Contains a sample from 'Made In Two Minutes' performed by Bug Kann And The Plastic Jam. Pandemonium Cotains a sample from 'Set It Off' performed by Big Daddy Kane. Also uses a sample taken from 'Time & Space - Jungle Warfare Samples #1' sample CD. G-Force (Energy Flow) Uses a sample taken from 'Return Of Captain Rock' performed by Captain Rock. The song also uses a sample from 'Hello Earth' by Kate Bush. Crazy Man The intro sample is taken from the film 'The Shining'. Rip Up The Sound System The female vocals are performed by Simone. Jericho 'Jericho' is also often called 'Horns Of Jericho'. The track uses a sample from 'Wat U Waitin 4' performed the Jungle Brothers. The live version samples at the beginning Pink Floyd's 'Sorrow' and it was recorded live July 18th 1992. Music Reach (1/2/3/4) Wind It Up "Wind it up" sample is taken from Just Ice's 'Latoya'. Liam didn't want to release 'Wind It Up' as a single because he felt it was a dated track and releasing it as a single felt like ripping off fans. 'Wind It Up' Elektra single, unkile others, isn't available anymore so it's a real collector's item. A remix by Tony Garcia. A remix by Tony Garcia. A remix by Tony Garcia. A remix by Tony Garcia. The beat is sampled from 'Crew From The North' performed by Ruthless Rap Assassins. Out Of Space The raggae sample is taken from 'Chase the Devil' by Max Romeo. Also uses a sample taken from 'Critical Beatdown' by Ultramagnetic MC's. Liam: "With 'Out Of Space' I kinda let myself down a bit cause there's such a big hook. I came across the Max Romeo track and I really liked it. I'd already written a version of 'Out Of Space' but that sample fitted really well with it. I was getting to the end of the album and I felt I wanted a reggae type track, so that was it." A remix by Mark Picchiotti and Teri Bristol. A remix by Mark Picchiotti and Teri Bristol. Weather Experience Intro vocals by Michael Fish, BBC's weather man. The beat is sampled from Uptown's 'Dope On Plastic'. Fire Uses a sample from Crazy World Of Arthur Brown's song 'Fire'. It costed £4000 to XL Recordings to use that sample. The video of 'Fire' is only available on a rare 'XL-Recordings 5th Chapter' -video. Prodigy has said that the video was most pleasant to do but at the same time it's the worst Prodigy video. The single was release just two weeks before 'Experience' and the single was soon withdrawn but then it was re-released - that's why it says "strangely limited edition" on the cover. Liam: "It's a smoking song instead of any ecstasy-feel rave song. It's got a raggae feel to it, because I want to link it up to the whole smoking vibe." Ruff In The Jungle Bizness Vocals are performed by Simone. Death Of The Prodigy Dancers We Are The Ruffest |
