Junk Rig

I will use one 800 sq ft (74 m2) junk sail on the boat. This is some pictures of another junk rigged boat, Fenix. Its rig will differ a bit from mine.

We met Ben Smith at the Summer Isles between Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides and Ullapool in northwest Scotland. He had just sailed single handed from the Faeroes. The Fenix rig is modified to be able to sail closer to the wind than ordinary, with bendy battens and only a small portion of the sail balanced in front of the mast. Bens grandfather originally designed the Fenix rig.

Ben gave us a lot of notes from his grandfather that we photocopied in Oban two weeks before we met at Summer Isles.
