Meet the Push Stars: Chris Trapper, Ryan MacMillan, and Dan McLoughlin. Hailing from Boston, Mass., The Push Stars are beginning to create some major commotion in the music world (and in mine...can't get enough of them right now!). Their 1999 Capitol release, After the Party has given us the singles "Any Little Town" which has been climbing up the AAA charts recently, and "Drunk Is Better Than Dead". Besides already having won numerous awards, including the Rising Star Award from the Boston Music Awards this year, the guys have been getting major recognition by being featured in soundtracks and various TV shows. The song, "Everything Shines" was featured in last year's There's Something About Mary soundtrack, and was more recently heard on the new ABC series, Wasteland. And they sang the National Anthem at a Buffalo Bills game in late September! This is all in addition to the heavy touring they've been doing with such awesome bands as Better Than Ezra, Julian Lennon, and Guster.
I first saw them this past June when they played with Better Than Ezra, a huge favorite of mine. I was not expecting much, because opening bands are usually not that entertaining, but this time I was blown away. They were excellent, playing great songs with awesome lyrics, and showing a lot of charm and feeling onstage. That night I got to meet Ryan, the drummer, and he was very friendly. The following night I met Chris (singer/guitarist) and Dan (bassist) and found the same thing - seriously, these guys are the nicest people you'll ever meet! Their genuine personalities combined with their wonderful music have made The Push Stars one of my favorite new bands.
