Thought I would drop you a line to say hi and tell
you a funny incident that happened last Thursday(5/14)
I had finally gotten my pictures back from the Chord on
Blue show and was showing them to my son on the way to
this music store where he was going to look at amps.
Just as we got out of the car Steven points to a guy
coming out of the store and said "Mom, isn't he in that
band"? Sure enough it was Jim Peterik! I walked up to
him and said hi, and told him how much I emjoyed that
show. He looked at me and said..oh you were the other
lady taking pictures and asked me for a pick. Talk
about being flattered!! To think that he remembered that. So I
introduced my son to him and showed Jim the pictures. My son likes the
lp Eye of the Tiger a lot, he listens to it more than me. SO that
really made my day. Steven is jealous of me because I get to meet at
talk to these guys a lot. I told him, 20 years from now you're
favorite singers will be that available.
(Yeh...right)

I remember, like others, the Ides of March when
they first began performing. I loved the music, the
"big band" idea, and enjoyed dancing to their beat.
Having lost track of the old Chicago groups of the
60's and early 70's for many years I learned two
years ago that the group still existed. I finally
got to see Ides Of March last fall at the Lyons
Brewery Company, after meeting Chuck last September
(?) when he sang with the Cryan' Shames in
Clarendon Hills. Fantastic!!! I closed my eyes and
found myself drifting back 30 some years, the music
was just unbelievable. Keep it up guys, I hope to
see you more often.

Dudes, you guys ROCK! I was sitting in a dive bar in Vegas when
Vehicle came on...and, man...just a wall of sound! The bartender was
from Chicago, and he just kept playing it. He said it took him home.
Home.

I have been a fan of the Ides of March for years. Recently, I have been
bringing my nieces (4 & 7) to the concerts. They love the whole concert
experience. On the playground last summer, I overheard the 4 year old
telling one of her friends, in a very superior voice, with her hand on
her hip, "I'm going to see the Eyes of March tonight, you know...like
eyes." while pointing to her face. I didn't have the heart to correct
her and we had a wonderful time at the concert that night. .

Since the band got back together in 1990, we have had the great
experience of meeting alot of new people that enjoy our music. It's
also been great seeing alot of friends from the past. Finally after
eight years, thanx to Katie, more people will find out that the Ides
are back. With all the original guys cranking out the old tunes like
Vehicle and LA Goodbye, plus alot of new material in our live show, we
look forward to seeing you all out at one of our shows this summer.
Keep checking this page for updates on shows and other Ides
appearances. It should be another great Ides summer. Later....

I grew up with these guys. My brothers went to
school with them. Last Christmas I made the trek
back to Berwyn just to get their C.D.s for one of
my brothers for a gift. I also got copies for
myself. They are still HOT! My husband and I plan
on a trip "home" this summer to see them play. Now
if I could just convince them that Saugatuck MI is
the place to play I would be all set. By the way
Vehicle is still on the play list for our local
radio station WEVS.

I was in a rock band in the early seventies. On nights when we didn't
have a gig we
used to go to concerts in the south. I can remember seeing the Ides
of March several
times in concert in Gadsden, Alabama in 1971 and 1972. We all thought
they were really great.
I had forgotten all about them until I saw your page.

"Vehicle" is one of the VERY few albums I have ever come across where
the quality of music remains consistently high on every track. No
filler. Only 3DN's "Golden Biscuits", Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the
Moon", Led Zepplin's "Zuso" (or whatever the their 4th album is called)
and possibly The Pretenders' "Learning to Crawl" quickly come to mind.
No counting, of course, every Beatles album from "Revolver" on...
different world.
"Vechile" (title track) was a mega-seller, and I suppose none of the
rest of the tracks were never released as singles. Too bad. Perhaps
most spectacular is how much better the Ides version of "Wooden Ships"
is than the CSN version. More than 20 years ago I bought a cassette
tape of "Vehicle", which has long since turned brittle. I'd give my
eye teeth to see it on CD, and would part with more than a few bucks
for a mint condition album.

For those of you who want to know where the Ides
are playing and a general update on the band, they
have a "hotline" here in the Chicago burbs... There you will get a
recording of Chuck Soumar giving info on the next
dates and what they're doing. They had an AWESOME
New Year's Eve show at a local club!!!!

I'm an old fan of the Ides. I first heard of them
in the middle 60's when they had a regional hit
with a song called "Roller Coaster". I had the
pleasure of sseing them 4 times in the early 70's
and got to talk with the band, especially Bob. I
still have the b&w photos I took of them with my
old "Swinger" camera and I still have the @ Warner
Brothers albums (I hope they become available on
CD). I was totally surprised to find out they are
together again (all of them) and I hope I'll be
able to catch them in concert.

I am not ablero find your music anywhere (tapes
or, preferably CD-s). I love your music and I
would like to get as many CD-s as there are on the
market. I was serching through the Internet, but
with no success. It would be realy nice, if you
could help me out. Thanks, Ugi
I wanted to share this story with you, because you are one of few people here in the U.S. who knows anything about the Ides of March. I came from Serbia, YU, and I heard their music overthere. It was a cassette with a bunch of their songs, but the problem was that neither the guy who I got the cassette from nor I knew the name of the band or names of songs that they are playing. When I came to the U.S. two years ago, I saw a comercial for some CD for some music from 70's, and I heard, of course, "The Vehicle" which clicked my mind and then I found out that the name of the band is "The Ides of March." For year and a half, I've been looking for their music in all music stores, here in Chicago, with no success. Also, I've sent an e-mail to them about a month ago, but they didn't respond to it yet. If you know where I could find their music on a cassette or a CD, please advise me. Thanks for sharing this experience with me, and I hope I'll get a e-mail from you soon. Ugi

Hi! and welcome! I put this page together so that there would at least be something about the Ides of March on the Web. I keep hinting to their e-mail address that there needs to be an official page, but so far nothing has materialized. I would LOVE to hear from other fans! Tell me anything! Tell me about a show you’ve seen, a time you met a band member, or simply tell me you love one song. I want to hear it all!
I actually know very little about the history of the Ides of March. Unfortunately, I haven’t found out much by surfing the net either. I myself became a fan in the mid 80s. I was 15. At the time the band Survivor was all I listened to. I did some research into the band members and found that Jim Peterik was a former member of the Ides of March. I managed to find a 45 rpm copy of vehicle in a record store. I liked the song, but I wasn’t completely sold until I flipped the record over and heard the song “L.A. Good-bye.” Since that time, I’ve managed to find 4 of their old records. My musical taste is all over the board. I like every thing from Alice in Chains to Garth Brooks to Mozart! I especially love the Ides music because it’s positive. It’s ‘feel good music’ at it’s best.
I drove from my home in Lansing, Michigan to see them in concert in Chicago this past summer for the first time. It was well worth the trip. I had the chance to meet the band members. They all were very friendly and really made the fans feel welcomed to the show. After the show anyone could meet the band and get autographs. I’d definitely say the Ides care about their fans! I even dragged my best friend with me to the show. After seeing the energetic performance the Ides put on, he was sold! I can’t wait to see the Ides live in concert again!!!!!

Comments: Well I'm a 14 year old who loves old rock. I'm in
the band at my high school (Go Bulldogs)and the
best pop tune we played was Vehicle. I had never
heard of the Ides of March before this. I asked
around and no one seemed to either. So one day, I
was bored at looked around and I wound up here. Now
I can tell everyone at school just who the Ides of
March are. Thanks a bunch!
I'd love to hear your stories and comments! Please fill out
the form on the next page!
Thanks!!!!!!
