cover Metropolis by Thea von Harbou

This book is hard to find, and odds are good that you will only get it online. An independent publisher has reprinted it recently in a 75th anniversary edition, which is complete with stills from the movie and prints of posters from the 20's. The pictures, however, look as though they have been xeroxed, and the text is riddled with typos. All that said, the story is absolutely beautiful. You will not find a better written story anywhere in current literature. If you think you liked the movie, you will like the novel better.

Audio version of Thea von Harbou's Metropolis.

This is supposed to be like a radio play, not a book on cassette. There is music and special effects added to the background -- other than that, I have no other description.

This is an essay I wrote in my film class about German Expressionism. It follows Metropolis' connection to the genre. Metropolis and German Expressionism
